A lot of folks wanted to see Al Gore III -- only son of the one-time almost-president -- get knocked out at the Corporate Challenge Boxing Tournament, held last night at the B.B. King Blues Club in New York City. But schadenfreude wasn't on the card. Instead Al "Kid Blanco" Gore beat Ken "The Carnivore" Cunningham via a controversial third-round TKO.
Cunningham, coming off a victory in last fall's Corporate Challenge, dominated the first round. However Gore, who has been training for the last three years but had yet to participate in an organized match, stung Cunningham with a vicious right uppercut at the beginning of the second round -- a punch that changed the trajectory of the fight.
In the third and final round, the ref slapped Cunningham with three standing eight counts, the third of which came with two seconds remaining in the bout, ending it by TKO. The heavily pro-Cunningham crowd booed lustily after each standing eight, and it appeared the last wasn't based on actual physical contact.
"Some of those standing eights were ridiculous," a frustrated Cunningham said, after the fight. "But still, he fought the better fight, and he deserved to win."
Read on to see exclusive video of all three rounds. Gore is wearing the red head guard and dark trunks.
