Almost 50 percent of adults believe that romantic comedies have spoiled their view of an ideal relationship. So says a survey of 1,000 Australians administered by Warner Home Video. In addition, one in four respondents answered that rom coms increase the unrealistic expectation that they should "know what their partner is thinking," and one in five believe the film genre has convinced their partner that they deserve gifts and flowers "just because."
And it's not just the Aussies who take such a cynical view of chick flicks: A recent Scottish study on the effect of romantic comedies came to a similar conclusion.
So that's why Jennifer Aniston keeps on churning out this sort of fare: She wants everybody else to be as miserable in their love lives as she is in hers.
