Did you ever wonder how many people are actually working out during the middle of the night at a 24 Hour Fitness club?Bayan Rabbani can tell you. In fact, the writer and comedian can tell you a lot about the ebb and flow of a 24-hour gym. That's because, two weeks ago, he spent 24 hours straight in a Houston-area location -- and live-tweeted the whole experience
"The least amount of people I counted was six at about 2:30 a.m.," Rabbani told Asylum. "At 4:30 people started to pour in. Which was surprising because it was a Saturday, so I would have thought most people wouldn't have had to get there that early."
Rabbani is no stranger to spending 24 hours in places. Earlier this year he camped out in both a Starbucks and a Wal-Mart for an entire day. This, however, was the first time that the target establishment had prior warning that they were about to be receive a day-long visit from Rabbani.
"The press release (announcing the stunt) prompted an emergency meeting inside the corporate headquarters of 24 Hour Fitness," Rabbani explained.
They decided to allow him to go forward. According to the 24-year old, the staff of the gym ended up being "welcoming and professional."
And it's not like Rabbani was just idling and tweeting as everyone else worked up a sweat. Instead he took full advantage of the gym's facilities, participating in classes for spinning, Pilates, abs, Zumba and yoga.
When he wasn't getting a workout as part of a group, Rabbani spent some of his time on the StairMaster and other gym equipment. To keep his energy up, he consumed so much protein -- a whopping 280 grams -- that his kidneys began to hurt.As for sleep. Well, he wasn't doing that. However, he does concede that his eyes got a bit heavy during a session in the club's hot tub. "I passed out for about a minute because the water was so warm," he admitted. "Then I woke up with water up my nose."
Toward the end of his long, tiresome day, he did his part as an entertainer, emerging from the bathroom wearing a leopard-print Snuggie and then hitting the weight machines for comic effect.
"The whole place just stopped working out and watched me work out" he explained. "And when people asked me why I was exercising in a Snuggie, I just made wacky stuff up like, 'Haven't you heard? It's good for circulation.'"
Bayan Rabbani is probably the only man in the world to have spent 24 hours in a Wal-Mart, a Starbucks and a 24 Hour Fitness. So we had to ask him, "Which open-all-night venue would you be able to last the longest without leaving?"
"I'd probably survive the longest in Wal-Mart," he told us, almost immediately. "At Wal-Mart, I did sleep -- in the automotive section, actually."
Sam Walton would have been proud.

A "whopping" 280 grams of protein??? That's less than a 10-ounce steak...something I, and many others, consume regularly.
Unless he consumed it in some weird form like a protein supplement, it doesn't seem like it should make his kidneys hurt.

You are an idiot in an 10 ounce steak you only have about 15 grams of protein if it is lean

Dude, there's like 28 grams of protein in a steak.
This Rabanni guy seems like a major tallhead.

Your both idiots. A 10oz steak contains between 75-90g of protein depending upon the cut. And where did you get 15g from?? You obviously know absolutely nothing about nutrition.

"The Wal-Mart Challenge" as it is affectionately known, is a semi-popular hazing ritual at some fraternities in which a pledge must spend 24 hours straight in a Wal-Mart. In order to audit the process, members of the fraternity check in at unknown intervals to get price checks on assorted items that they had reserached the previous day.

Whenever I spend long hours at wal-mart (which is often!), I always go sleep in the dog food section. It's pretty comfortable because you have huge pallets of dog food to position to your liking. Ha my friends and I have spent many an hour passed out there, and we don't really get bothered by anyone.

I'm an old, politically incorrect person, and proud of it. Abitrary, illogical changes in English usage really set me off. Two recent ones are referring to one's automobile as his RIDE. (Yes HIS for the singular possessive pronoun when the SEX of the person is unknown). Who the hell came up with that one? The other, as stated in this piece, is, "Amount of people". PEOPLE ARE COUNTABLE, therefore, it should be, "Number of people", as it was until a couple of years ago.

24 hr fitness is heaven sent when you are remodeling your bathroom, want to save on your water bill (ALWAYS SHOWER AT THE GYM), Too tired or drunk to drive home (you can always find a quiet dark spot at night in the Gym) Traveling but not tired enough or too broke to stay at a Motel (sleep in back of your car, shower at 24 hr fitness).
If you are going to lose your home/Apartment NEVER lose your 24 hr membership because you will always have a place to get clean, stay warm, and be safe (also you can rinse you gym clothes and socks out in the sink ... do this when the gym is REALLY DEAD ... or in the shower (dry them in your trunk).
Unless you are REALLY BRAZEN AND BRAVE, always opt for ALL CLUB ACCESS (5 more bucks)and to insure a nice dark place to rest late at night opt up for the Sport Membership (another 5 bucks or so a month) (Pretty inexpensive at Costco and its a 2 year membership each time) The Sport membership also gives you Swimming, Jacuzzzi, Tennis, Basketball, Spinning Rooms (the basketball courts and spinning rooms are rarely used and dark late at night and geat places for a few winks (Ok SEVERAL HOURS OF uninterupted SLEEP)The Staff is minimal after 10 and could care less what you do as long as you dont bother them/others. It is best if you are in a city with several clubs and to frequent several a week, since you dont want to be known as the guy /girl that ACTUALLY LIVES at the gym vs the gym rats that spend 4-8 hours a day there. More hints: The gyms are in relatively good to upscale areas of most cities, many have FREE parking (City Street parking is free in most cities late at night but always check parking signs) Never JUST TAKE A SHOWER/CLEAN UP ... ie: ALWAYS work out if you have to use the same gym to shower in during a home/bathroom remodel or if you are saving on your water bill. Most of all ... DONT MAKE IT OBVIOUS THAT YOU ARE DOING THIS ... DUH. 24 has awesome locations near beaches and many tourist attractions (parking is a problem for some of these clubs though). ALWAYS print out any club locations along the way to any travel destination, have a printed mapquest map from a major freeway, and insure the club is open 24 hours (some (very few) are not open 24 hours a day). Even if you stay at a Motel/Hotel at night it 's nice to stop along the way at a 24 hr fitness and catch a quick workout (it always leaves me refreshed and more alert) The side effect: After your bathroom remodel you are more fit. When you save on your home water bill you are MORE FIT. You save on Heating and AC bills as well when you are in the gym. (Lots of fans and AC in the gym workout areas to keep you cool and swimming pools to cool off in or heat in the cold with Saunas, Steam Rooms, and jacuzzis (Cool or warm and fit at the same time) When you dont drive drunk you dont spend time in jail or worse. If the weather turns nasty on a trip you have a place to stop, relax, stay dry and warm and yes work out. When you are homeless/out of work, you look good and are clean, which makes you more attractive to employers.(and you can always eat on the REAL CHEAP at Costco ... and I dont think you have to be a member to get their Hot Dogs and fast food) Plus you save money so you might still have your car to get to work when you get a job.
That said, dont wear your snuggies or pajamas (ok the cotton designer ones that idiots in LA wear EVERYWHERE are Ok). You might ask if I have done this ... in a word ... some of it ... remodel of plumbing systems and bathroom, yes. Stop for a quick workout while driving ... ALWAYS. 2-3 hour nap in a spin class room ... a few times. Shower in a city where the rooms were out of my budget and I spent the night asleep in the car ... yep. Its MUCH SAFER and more comfortable to sleep in the club than your car but more than 3 hours asleep in one given club seems excessive to me but I have seen people that are asleep when I arrive and are asleep when I have left on a "nap-over". Workout mats (with a folded towel for your head as a pillow and padded floors are more comfortable than MANY motel matresses. Some 24 hr exec will probably freak over this but in reality very few people do it, Nap over people are less abusive to equipment than Gym Rats, No one remodels FOREVER (although it seems that way while you are in process)Sobering up in the gym lets a person know they drink too much (and it seems the more people work out the less they eat, drink, drug, etc.) Sleeping in your car/gym during a vacation is great once or twice but gets real old fast. (Better to stay home) That said, I LOVE 24 HOUR FITNESS IT ROCKS!!!!

Interesting Idea. I am sure it was a lot of fun. However, my comment has to do with grammar. As a writer, you gotta get it right. You should never say "amount of people". Proper grammar would have been "number of people".
I know it is anal of me, but you ARE a writer. :-)

Your Habrouck Heights facility is in sad, sad dis-repair, and no one seems to care, I even called the toll free number, but no one even returned my call.
This facility is not being maintained at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
everything is broken, weight machines , men's showers, locker room benches, spin bikes and the list goes on and on. All the members are talking about how bad things are.
I can't beleive that you could not be aware of this situation, all it needs is a visual surprise inspection to see the condition of this gym
