British man Spencer Conway just completed a massive motorcycle ride that took him from London all the way around the continent of Africa and back home to England. During his journey he endured many terrible roads, avoided war zones, was robbed twice and was once strafed with gunfire.

But the 42-year-old teacher kept on riding, for nine months and 37,000 miles. As a result of his endeavor, which covered 32 nations, he was able to raise over $40,000 for the Save the Children charity. Conway, who slept alone in the bush most nights, is the first motorcyclist to ride around the perimeter of Africa without a support staff.

The father of two told the Daily Telegraph that he has been experiencing reverse culture shock ever since he got back home. ''I went 2,000 kilometers without seeing another person at one point, so it's quite hard to adjust," he explained.

When he gets more comfortable socializing, Conway is going to have plenty of stories to tell -- like about when bandits between the border of Tanzania and Kenya shot up his Yamaha XT660. He was unhurt, but the wheel of his motorcycle fell off, and he had to walk until he found somewhere to get it fixed.

Kind of makes those 5Ks your co-workers always want you to sponsor seem like a cop-out.
