Although you probably associate her with Angelina Jolie, "Tomb Raider" heroine Lara Croft has been portrayed by a total of 10 real-life women, from actresses to models to gymnasts. In fact, the position has been filled so many times that Guinness World Records awarded the character with the record for "Most Official Real-Life Stand-Ins." With the release of her latest downloadable adventure, "Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light" on Xbox 360 (and soon PlayStation 3), we decided to let you vote on which woman portrayed her the best.
Name: Alison Carroll
Years as Lara Croft: 2008 to present
The trained British gymnast is the latest face of the "Tomb Raider" video game franchise, portraying Lara on television and in a world tour. Carroll's penchant for replicating those flexible maneuvers and acrobatics -- combined with the sexy accent -- arguably makes her the most accurate representation of the gaming icon yet.
Keep reading for the other women who've wielded Lara's dual pistols over the years. And be sure to cast a vote for your favorite Lara Croft.
Name: Karima AdebibeYears as Lara Croft: 2006 to 2008
Adebibe, also a native of England, was tapped to play Lara at the tender age of 20. The model was the first woman (outside Angelina Jolie) who was allowed to speak in character, not just pose in costume. Adebibe didn't take the role lightly though. She engaged in combat training to warm up for the role.
Name: Jill de JongYears as Lara Croft: 2002 to 2004
This Dutch model and actress was well known in the Netherlands, but she made many fanboy hearts jump when she was unveiled as Lara Croft in 2002. Sporting a darker look, inspired by "Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness," de Jong had the unenviable task of following up Angelina Jolie's portrayal of Lara. We think she handled it with dual-gun-wielding aplomb.
Name: Angelina JolieYears as Lara: 2001 to 2003
Probably the most recognizable face of Lara Croft, Jolie portrayed her in the feature films "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life." While the movies earned groans from critics, Jolie easily fulfilled the desire of countless gamers who wanted nothing more in a "Tomb Raider" flick than a hot actress jumping around in a tight, cut-off shirt and short shorts. Make that an Oscar-winning actress in a tight, cut-off shirt and short shorts.
Name: Lucy ClarksonYears as Lara: 2000 to 2002
Clarkson is the youngest Croft model so far -- she was only 17 years old when she landed the gig. Therefore, it might be best if we focused solely on her post–"Tomb Raider" career, such as her effort to save bears by removing her clothes. Charity!
Name: Lara WellerYears as Lara: 1999 to 2000
You might balk at the hippie shades and turquoise top, but that was cool in the '90s! She definitely had a bit of a cutesy, more classically feminine look when compared to the future Lara models, but don't forget that Lara is a wealthy aristocrat when above ground. She can afford to look prim and proper.
Name: Nell McAndrewYears as Lara: 1998 to 1999
McAndrew is by far the most controversial Croft model. Thanks to a spread in Playboy, the English model was promptly fired from her role as gaming's biggest vixen. But don't feel bad for her. After McAndrew's brief but memorable stint, she was featured in numerous magazines, launched a TV career and even released her own fitness videos.
Name: Vanessa DemouyYears as Lara: 1998
Demouy wasn't Lara for long, and maybe that's for the best: Playing a Brit must have been tough for the French-born actress. Demouy did nail the ponytail, however. Information on her is scant, but if you speak French, you'll enjoy this clip of her on a talk show. On second thought, you'll enjoy it no matter what.
Name: Rhona MitraYears as Lara: 1997 to 1998
Arguably the most successful of the early Lara Croft models, Mitra went on to appear in TV shows like "Nip/Tuck," "The Practice," "Boston Legal," "Stargate Universe" and, most recently, "The Gates." You may also recognize her from movies like "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" and the "Mad Max"–inspired "Doomsday." We're more than content with her being typecast as a badass chick with a sexy scowl.
Name: Nathalie CookYears as Lara: 1996 to 1997
Cook is where it all began, the face that helped launch one of the best jobs of the last 15 years and brought Lara Croft into the real world. No more staring at Lara's disproportionate, polygonal breasts and square face while hoping to accidentally press the correct button combination for the long-rumored "nude code."
Ironically, Cook's had the least amount of exposure following her role. Maybe it had something to do with the obviously low-quality costume?

Alison Carroll makes the best Lara Croft. The video game character had a curvy body. Not a stick figure like Angelina Jolie.
Jolie and the other contestants would have been excellent for "Aeon Flux"
