Luckily for you, Asylum sat through the whole tiresome spectacle to bring you only the essential Miss Universe coverage. And luckily for us, we were rewarded with the spectacle of Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete, who took home the crown.

Navarette's win is bound to cause some grumbling on conservative websites, much as Muslim-American Rima Fakih's Miss USA did just a few months back. One person who isn't complaining is Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who celebrated Navarette as "a source of pride and satisfaction for all Mexicans, who see in her the fruits of perseverance." We're pretty sure they also see themselves in her pants, but that's another matter.

Critics were baffled as to why so few Americans wanted to enjoy watching Donald Trump and his hair molest 20-something girls with spray-tan bottles. The answer, however, is simple: No one saw Miss Mexico coming.
