79-year-old Philip, a retired company director from Blandford, Dorset, England, began creating his first ship in 1948 when he was just 17. He uses a razor blade, tweezers and sandpaper to carve the matches and boxes before piecing them together using PVA and balsa wood glue. In total he has utilized more than 650,000 to create his incredibly detailed 1:300 scale matchstick armada.
Very impressive, sir. If it weren't for professional sports and video games, we'd probably be in a basement gluing stuff together, too. Keep reading for a closer peek at some of Philip's work.

It's not like he spent every second doing this. Just spare time. Add up all of the time we spend playing video games or surfing the web and the same could be said for us.

Wasted life? Have you lost yours?? Do you enjoy drinking and drugging, smoking and being an overall waste of human being by sitting in front of the idiot box watching monster truck rallys?? You are whats wrong with some people today. They do not know nor value having a wonderful hobby. Nor do they even know what a hobby is. It is a great way to reduce stress, and gives a way to relax. This is obviously a joy for him, as it should be. You Dan, what is your hobby? Being a do nothing person?

very inspiring.... as an artist... sometimes others want to know when am I going to be FINISHED! especially if the "body of work" takes years! Here is to sticking! pun intended to what is available and playing with creativity everyday! bravo! to him!
With so many idle distractions that makes people zombies... I can see how others might not get that there are 24 hours in day and some are up to unbelievably productive, seemingly impossible things.
Like many artist who are not attached...maybe have a show and strike a match!

Add to my last comment !! I first thought it was Dan who made the models I apologize to Philip . On reading the posts I now know that Dan probably has not got the brain for such a task.

It's always nice to know that there are useless trolls like Dan to mock anything interesting that someone else does in life. Save your snarky cynical comments for your own lonely sad existence.

Mr. Warren: They are just beautiful. So full of detail! I hope I get to see them with my own eyes one day.
Dan: Loser!!! What do you do? Smash your beer cans and stack them? Well, if you did you would be creating something! Wind chimes.

i agree. this mans hobby appears to be museum quality work. i too would like to see them in person. they should be somewhere, where the public can view them. AMAZING work and a cool hobby. most people interested in these ships would probably purchase a plastic glue together model. he is unbelievably prolific. can you imagine the research BEFORE he even started building from scratch. glad i got to see some of it.
