Craigslist's Missed Connections is one Internet staple desperately in need of mockery. Thankfully, after years of our praying for something like this, one actress and filmmaker has put together a not-so-loving tribute to the wackos and nutjobs who populate its pages with their painful laments at opportunities that went by untaken. She calls it "Missed Connections Live," and it's quickly catching on, thanks to YouTube.
The genius behind this operation is one Melissa Center, who told Asylum how she came up with the idea: "I was immediately intrigued by the content [of Missed Connections], the sheer amount of postings and started wondering what motivated people to write these things?"
We have an answer for Center, which involves the words "insanity" and "laziness," as well as the vainglorious belief that somehow other people care about nonsense like Missed Connections. However, Center has found a a way to reach out to them, through her eight-part (so far) Web series, which involves the up-and-coming actress playing the roles of the lovestruck and, well, struck-stupid.
"I do leave myself room to embellish on what's been written, in order to enhance the character, if need be," she explains. "But the main idea is that I stay true to what has been written by real, everyday people."
Even if you can't stand the Missed Connections posts themselves, Center is one very good-looking gal. So, we're pretty sure you'll watch her lampoon the Craigslist pleas. Keep reading for our favorite video from the eight-episode series.
