Some fantasy-game players found themselves in the midst of some real-life excitement Tuesday, as Colorado police arrested player Aaron Klug just seconds after he stepped into Karliquin's Game Knight of Boulder. No, don't worry -- Klug wasn't arrested for refusing to grow up. The 27-year-old was wanted in connection with a June 29 bank robbery in Longmont.
Investigators had been monitoring Klug and, through an online D&D message group at meetup.com, were able to find out he'd be in attendance at Karliquin's.
According to a store employee named Dan, there was an "undercover guy inside waiting for him, and an agent outside." Within moments of Klug's arrival, he was in cuffs and out the door. Dan added that he personally disliked Klug because he would "hang around the store for hours and use the books like they were library books."
The owner of Karliquin's, Karl, wrote, in a message board review of the event, "A lot of fun! Would have been 6 [players], but the police arrested our wizard before we started."
In a culture where most of the action happens in the minds of the players, Klug will have to get used to reality real fast. Unless casting an invisibility spell works on his cellmates.
