If there's one thing the Internet loves, it's kittens being cute. Failing that, absurd conspiracy theories will do, and this clip of an alleged time traveler appearing to talk on a cell phone in a Charlie Chaplin film has to be one of the oddest.

Spotted by some eagle-eyed Chaplin fan named George Clark, it's only a brief moment, but there it is, a woman walking across the screen with her hand to the side of her face.

Is she a time-traveler? (Probably not.) Is she an alien from another dimension? (Uh, no.) Does she in fact have a rudimentary phone to her ear, while she calls her mom to say she'll be home late? (Well, it's as likely as the other two, to be honest ...)

The footage itself is taken from promotional material for the 1928 Charlie Chaplin film "The Circus," showing fans heading into Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood -- behind a fake zebra, of course.

But, seriously, what reasonable explanation can there be for her walking in such a convincing phone-holding manner? It does look a lot like granny using an iPhone. Is it a tiny walkie-talkie? Is she shy, hiding her face? Is she crazy and talking to herself?

Or is it some publicity stunt for Mr. Clark's latest film festival? We guess we'll never know. In the meantime, post all your outrageous conjectures below. That's an order.
