Juvenile chimps play with sticks like human children play with dolls.

Sonya Kahlenberg of Bates College and Richard Wrangham of Harvard University observed the behavior of wild chimps for 14 years. They found many instances of young chimps -- usually female -- treating a stick like a doll by carrying it around with them and bringing it into their nest.

Among the female chimps, this behavior always stopped once they become mothers. This has led Kahlenberg to hypothesize that "stick-carrying is practice for the adult role of motherhood."

They might look all cute, playing with their little stick dolls, but remember -- they can grow up to be poo-throwing, face-ripping monsters.
