Perhaps the most infamously awful holiday special came courtesy of the Star Wars franchise in 1978, when the "Star Wars Holiday Special" aired, following Chewie and Han Solo's attempt to go home to Chewie's family so they can celebrate "Lifeday." Even with Bea Arthur on board, the special is known as a major dud, one George Lucas virtually refuses to talk about.
