Our friends at FilmDrunk are reporting that the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" will be adapted into a movie staring the "Hurt Locker's" Jeremy Renner and Bond girl Gemma Arterton. But wait, there's a catch. Instead of focusing on the story's original plot the movie will be titled "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters," and the fully grown brother and sister tandem will be bounty hunters who rid the world of evil witches.
Given the difficulties the duo had in dealing with one blind and very frail witch, this seems an odd vocation for them to chose. Furthermore, a straight adaption of Hansel and Gretel could have some potential, as that was one dark, dark fairy tale.
There have been some pretty solid movies over the years that have either been based on stories that would qualify as fairy tales, or are themselves fairy-tale in nature. We've listed a few of our favorites (in the non-animated division), and we want to know which of them you think is best.
| "The Wizard of Oz" -- best thing to ever happen to Kansas | |
|---|---|
| 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory' -- only did $4 million at the box office | |
| "The Princess Bride" -- "Inconceivable!" | |
| "Labyrinth" -- David Bowie does the Magic Dance | |
| "Alice in Wonderland" -- fairy tale in 3-D | |
| "Splash" -- fairy tale in the '80s |
