Catherine and Angela's Family Ties {AOL Hot Searches}
Aug 24th 2009 3:33PM I have been blessed to have seen Angela Lansbury on stage several times. She was wonderful as Mame, of course, but her Mama Rose in Gypsy scared the pants off you - what a performance! (I'd seen Ethel Merman in the original version and it was mind boggling to see how two different actresses made it two different plays). My favorite Lansbury outing, however was her brilliant and poignant turn in Dear World (I don't think this one was a hit, particularly, but I shall never forget Ms. Lansbury's amazing portrayal)!
Creepiest Ads on the Web {Switched.com}
Feb 5th 2009 5:17PM The scariest thing about all this is how we as a nation - and the whole civilized world for that matter - are being slowly but surely brainwashed into buying, buying snd spending, spending and wanting more, even when we have no possible use for whatever it is (blankets with sleeves, anyone?).
Bathroom Cameras a Good Thing, Says School {ParentDish}
Feb 4th 2009 1:59AM Give me a break! We have become a lax, undisciplined, permissive society - so what do we do to correct those problems? Teach our kids (AND THEIR PARENTS) how to behave properly in a civilized society? Nah! We install cameras, of course.To paraphrase the song ("send in the clowns - don;t bother, they're here"), Big Brother is Here! Shame on all of us for letting all this happen. (Speaking of songs, should we change that line in the bational anthem? The one about "home of the free?!")
Town in Tuscany bans ethnic food {Gadling}
Feb 2nd 2009 12:41PM OK, let's not get so profoundly analytical here. I have lived in Lucca, know its people and its culture, and this boils down to being a matter of simple economics.
Tuscan cuisine is world famous and is a great big tourist draw. It must be remembered that these are small - very small - towns we are talking about and there is hardly room for what is already there let alone having to compete with the new. Besides, wouldn't you be ticked - after spending money on air fare and hotels to visit "Tuscany" - finding moo shoo gai pan instead of osso buco? These towns are trying to preserve their uniqueness - each one has something different and special to offer. It's not like here in the USA where the same golden arches can be seen every block or so from Maine to California.
California Mulls Crackdown on kW Hogging Flat Panel TVs {Green Daily}
Jan 6th 2009 9:31PM I buy most everything from Amazon.com anyway, so no big deal there. The thing to do, of course, is to design Plasmas and Lcds that require less energy.If the companies that manufacture these items will take their blinders off and do just that, they won't wind up like the once big automobile manufacturers who turned a deaf ear to energy-efficient cars over 20 years ago!
The Robotic Sexual Revolution -- Good For Humans? {Asylum}
Jan 6th 2009 9:18PM Humans have been exhibiting kinky behavior since recorded history (and perhaps before that). I doubt the robotic revolution will wind up doing us "in." Having said that, whoever wrote the article should take a look around. If what's going on in the world can be called "unscathed", that reporter needs a new pair of bifocals!
Sears won't issue refund for TV paid for but never delivered {WalletPop}
Apr 15th 2008 6:10PM I have had a similar experience with Sears and had a long, frustrating time getting the issue resolved. However, I do still go to Sears - I walk through it from the parking lot on my way to into the mall.
Grocery Savings Strategies {Slashfood}
Apr 8th 2008 5:21PM Most all supermarkets have a "sale" rack tucked away somewhere in the store featuring day old bread and pastries or fruits and vegetables that are stil excellent if used in a day or so but won't keep another week. Items on these racks are slashed at least 50% and I have purchased some trays of produce for as little as 40 cents! Look for these racks on your next visit to the market, or ask where they can be found. You won't be sorry.
New American passports can (maybe) trigger bombs {Gadling}
Dec 31st 2007 10:38AM Does anyone know if this chip can be shielded by placing the passport in a lead lined pouch - same as was used with photographic film when passing through airport scanners?
World's Largest TV Measures 150 Inches {Switched.com}
Dec 30th 2007 5:59PM Come on, people - this TV is not for home use (unless you are a celebrity with a gazillion room home), but it will be perfect in lounges, theaters, sports stadiums, concerts, and any public place where you wind up sitting in the last row in Section Limbo. Good for Panasonic!
