It Wasn't a Mortgage Recession After All: So Why Don't We Feel Better? {Housingwatch}
Mar 2nd 2010 1:12PM It's nice to know that at least ONE person out there ties this mess back to the Nixon era. We can all thank the Nixon gang for taking away the rules of the stockmarket. That group also took away other rules - I don't think I need to go into details for those of you who have read up on your history (or are old enough to remember).
It all comes down to one thing: the human race is greedy. With no rules, things go out of control sooner or later. The Great Depression is hardly the first time this happened.
Are Teens Too Young to Tan? {Lemondrop}
Feb 19th 2010 3:54PM What I don't understand is that in this day and age, sunbathing is a no no but going to a tanning salon is "OK". Both cause premature aging of the skin and skin cancer.
There are 3 girls in my family. I'm the oldest. My two sisters were both "sun worshipers" in their teens and have always been heavy make-up wearers. For the most part, I don't wear make-up and have never been a sun bather. Guess who looks the youngest now that we're in our late 40's/ mid 30's?
If I would bother to dye my hair, I would look like I'm in my early 30s. (I've tried it)
Sooo.... ladies, (and gents) stay out of the sun, wear a hat while you're in the sun and keep the make-up to a minimum. It'll pay off in the long run!
FEMA Drowns Millions of Homeowners in Flood Insurance Premiums {Housingwatch}
Jan 15th 2010 5:52PM Ah yes, those who think they live in a place that will never, ever flood. Think again, folks.
In 1983, there was a doozy of a flood here in Tucson AZ. The area was still had a small population, so most people just took it in stride, staying home, going to the edge of the washes to see the foodwaters and water skiing behind pick-up trucks.
Washes are usually dry riverbeds that usually run only during the monsoon season - around August to Sept. It's once in a blue moon that they actually fill all the way up and then some. Most of the bridges were washed away. Homes that were built on the edge of washes felt into the raging waters.
It's not a matter of if it's a matter of when this will happen again. Next time will be much, much worse due to the population increase and greedy builders building "communities" on flood plains. (FEMA allows builders to build on floodplains if they add two feet of dirt first - astounding)
Soooo... if you think it will never, ever flood in your area, think again. I'll bet if you looked back in history far enough, you will indeed, find a flood.
Emergency-room docs offer inside scoop: How to get treated faster, better {Daily Finance}
Dec 1st 2009 3:35PM Only 55 minutes? I don't know where you got this time but it sure wasn't in Tucson, AZ. The last time I had to be admitted to a hospital from the ER, I had to wait well over 24 hours.
The "tip" about bringing your medical records is a joke too. In this state, the doctors "own" your medical records and you have to pay them a pretty penny ($X per page) to get them. Some won't give them out even if you're changing doctors.
One tip I have to give out - judge the quality of the hospital by the cleanliness. If there's mold on the bathroom walls (I'm not talking about just a little bit in the corner) or garbage spilling out into the hallways, go somewhere else.
Wall Street gets it all: Bailouts, bonuses, first dibs on H1N1 vaccine {Daily Finance}
Nov 9th 2009 12:50PM This is old news: it was in my local newspaper last week.
I suggest that any of you who are not happy with this call your senators and congresspeople pronto. I asked them if Wall Street had taken their jobs, since they (Wall Street people) seemed to be more important than the voters. My reps were no amused.
Blogs Battle to Out Anderson Cooper {PopEater}
Nov 4th 2009 4:58PM Oh for crying out loud... it was my understanding that Cooper came out of the closet many years ago. What's the big how to do about it now?
Leave the man alone and go find something interesting to write about.
Gangster's ATM: New 'Trojan horse' opens your bank account to crooks {Daily Finance}
Oct 1st 2009 4:46PM The same thing happened to me though it was less money. Proof or not, BOA will not take responisiblity for someone else getting into your account.
Why NBC's not sweating Leno's falling ratings {Daily Finance}
Sep 28th 2009 5:10PM I've found myself turning to Leno even though there are new shows on. If I find the new (or old) shows boring or just plain bad, I now have something to turn to - Leno.
I'm glad he's now on primetime. He's had to clean up some of his language because of it. I don't see anything wrong with the set - of course it has to be different because he's no longer on The Tonight Show.
I loved how he made that raper speachless after asking how his mother would have thought of his behavior when he took the microphone away from that gal who won the award. More of these pushy people need to be reminded of manners.
Pet Detectives Assist in Search for Jessica Simpson's Dog {Pawnation OLD}
Sep 17th 2009 6:53PM OK so the girl is unable to accept that her dog was lunch for a cyote - at least she's spending her money employing people. Hey, the more money going into the workforce, the better, right?
NBC Says 'SNL' Fat Firing Is Bogus, But Our Readers Don't Buy It {PopEater}
Sep 11th 2009 3:08PM The firing because of being "fat" accusation is just plain silly. Throughout the decades that SNL has been on the air, many of their actors and actresses have been not just fat, but obese. Add that to how many have been drug addicts to boot and nothing seems to be bad enough to fire anybody from that show.
