Tomorrow is another day and will offer the opportunity to make amendments to restore what was compromised. The Bill still has major benefits that will secure the insurance that many already have and provide for those who do not have any coverage.

Believe me, when they come up for re-election I will be checking that list of democrat defectors who joined the Republican "party of No" to support the interests of the health insurance industry against the interest of the people.

Sep 8th 2009 11:25AM Some of these restaurants are making a fortune and can well afford to pay servers a decent salary, WITHOUT demanding help from their customers. What other business expects and even demands that their customers help pay their help? No place! Restaurants are getting over like a fat rat. I feel sorry for waiters and waitresses being exploited by restaurants paying them slave labor. So I usually tip as much as I can afford to. But the whole concept of tipping is based upon showing appreciation to your server for the attention and service she or he provided to you. The government should REQUIRE ALL restaurants to pay their waiters/waitresses a salary based on the minimum wages plus on a sliding scale contingent upon the annual gross income of the restaurant. Demanding a tip to supplement their servers' wages is ridiculous!

Like I said, you haters who cannot put your love for country first by laying aside your fanatic partisan politics, racism or other peabrain reasons for disliking the president are the ones who are making America look bad in the eyes of the world and would do America a big favor by doing the following: (1) either packing up and leaving the country; or (2) start reading, researching and thinking for yourself instead of taking your marching orders from drug addict radio hosts, alcoholic tv commentators and radio/tv stations who have proven that they will do and promote ANY demogogic lie to increase their ratings. Drugs and alcohol kill brain cells and it is obvious that these haters are afflicted with demented thinking.

Sep 7th 2009 7:35PM What is wrong with you people? President Roosevelt used to have firehouse chats with kids. No one objected. What sane person could object to someone (especially the president) inspiring their children to study hard and be the best they can be for themselves and for their country. Some people take partisan politics too far! Think about our country. Our kids are falling behind other nations because other nations' kids are excelling in science and math, etc. above our children! Stop it! stop the madness! stop allowing your racism, partisan politics, or whatever your peabrain thinks about the president, to overide this positive message to our kids because you do not like the person giving the speech. Read it! People are criticizing the speech before even reading it!! Is that crazy or what? Partisan political fanatics and racists claim to love America. Well, the future of America lies with our kids and they need to be inspired to step up to the plate more than they have been doing in their studies so they can compete with other kids to sustain America as "leader of the free world. If you love America, put America FIRST, not your partisan politics or racism. Love of country includes keeping your nation strong and competitive. Right now, America's academic leadership is in jeopardy. Wake up, stupid; overcome your hatred that we have a democrat for president and with some of you the irrational behavior you exhibit could only be fueled by your hatred for the president solely because he is a Black man and that is SOOOOOO IGNORANT!!!! I wish all of these haters would just pack up and leave the country. They just make America look bad in the eyes of the world.

The most prosperous nation in the world (got that way partly because of slave labor and the underpaid poor white and black back in the day) should step up to the plate and do the right thing: support legislation that would provide insurance coverage for ALL of its citizens!!! Stop being so SELFISH, coldhearted and all about me, me, me, me!!!

God admonishes christians that we are in the world, but are not to become a part of the world. That we should give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's (like paying taxes) and give to God the things that are God's, like loyalty and commitment to his principals and guidelines. Yet, Mike Huckabee is all wrapped up in Caesar's politics, even considering a run for the presidency. You so-called christians need to get off the fence and declare your allegiance either to God or to the World. The lord says he will spew you from his mouth because he is gagged by your lukewarmness towards him.

Aug 21st 2009 2:55AM You speak in such a cavalier manner about an attempt on Pres. Obama. I hope nothing happens because if it does it could ignite another civil war. Many lives could be lost and for what? Because white people think no one, especially African Americans, should govern this country except them. That is so ironic because this country belongs to the Indians or native americans, a people of color. And the country was built by the contributions of African Americans, chinese and other people of color. Washington, DC was designed by a Black man. Wall street was built by Black men. We have all contributed to building this country. Democracy would not have been so successful had it not been for free labor provided by Africans. These racist and white supremacist attitudes are the reason why the American school curriculum needs to include the history of African Anerican people in this country year round and not just one month a year. There is a lot of information being withheld from the citizenry about the overwhelming contributions Black people have made to this country. A black man invented electricity and Benjamin Franklin took the credit. A black man invented a way to design shoes to fit different size feet. The first open heart surgery was invented and successfully performed by a black man. I could go on and on about the unrecognized contributions to the development of the country by African Americans. White racists need to really get over themselves.
