Cockpit Chronicles: A Captain No More {Gadling}
Mar 12th 2013 10:57AM Just out of curiousity, but do you have enough seniority to hold onto a captain's line on the MD-80 out of O'Hare or DFW?
Airline Travel Tips To Count On {Gadling}
Dec 17th 2012 11:00AM Flying privately is a bit overrated. My flew one round-trip on a company jet. Because the plane had started the day in another city before getting to Chicago, all of the food and beverages were gone, and the crew didn't have time to replenish the galley.
Coming back, the crew had put a lot of beer, some wine, and junk food on board, but no pop or sandwiches.
Oh, and the crew let everyone take out beer bottles and glasses, before taxiing out from the FBO. Needless to say, all of that stuff went flying during takeoff. My wife got soaked with beer and wine.
Flying commercial first class is nicer than a biz jet.
America's Vacation Deficit And The Right To A Summer Holiday {Gadling}
Jul 30th 2012 1:29AM I'm not getting a summer vacation this year. But, that's because we took a spring vacation, and we're taking a cruise in October. Considering how hot and dry it's been across most of the U.S., who wanted to to anywhere, anyway.
Tips for flying cheaper in 2012 {Gadling}
Feb 10th 2012 8:57AM I also like Yapta.com. Put in an itinerary and a price you would like to pay. It notififies when the price goes down to the price or below. It also sends a weekly update as to the price.
My First Million: A.J. Khubani, TeleBrands {AOL Small Business}
Jul 27th 2011 4:39PM I watched the show with Billy Mays and Andrew Sullivan on Discovery. Not only is A.J. in the direct marketing business with Telebrands, but his brother runs his own direct marketing business. I seem to recall that A.J. either turned down a product or was unsure, so Sully and the product inventor pitched the product to A.J.'s brother.
Galley Gossip: Is it okay for passengers to dump their drinks on the floor during turbulence? {Gadling}
Jul 26th 2011 12:57AM When the ride gets bumpy enough that your drink (juice, water, Coke, wine, etc.,) jumps out of the glass, and then lands back inside, you know 2 things.
First, the turbulence is definitely moderate.
Second, don't pick up the glass. Leave on the tray table.
I was once on a United flight from O'Hare to Atlanta. We wound up flying through a thunderstorm, since lightning was visible out the windows on both sides of the cabin. When the ride first got bumpy, passengers were laughing. When the captain announced that the F/As needed to lock down the serving carts and take their seats immediately, the laughing stopped.
And the ride felt like a rollercoaster coming down the first big hill.
FAA stops collecting airfare taxes -- and the airlines cash in {Gadling}
Jul 23rd 2011 6:35PM You can't just start selling seats on a plane. To do so requires an operating certificate from the FAA. Further, a lot of airports do put passengers on biz jets (and even the likes of Cessna 172s) through the TSA screening. Chicago has been requiring such at Midway and O'Hare (and Miegs before it was closed) in the name of security going back to 2002 or 2003.
FAA stops collecting airfare taxes -- and the airlines cash in {Gadling}
Jul 23rd 2011 6:31PM The article on the Dallas Morning Star website claims AA raised fares to cash in on the lapse in tax collection. Yet, I've been looking to buy tickets to Florida and have been seeing fares of $410 to $450 R/T, depending on the day, time, and destination. Today, the fare dropped to $365 R/T.
Are Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton Close to Becoming a Couple? {PopEater}
Jun 22nd 2011 3:04PM You do know that there are redheads in the Spencer family. If you look up Diana's sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, she's a redhead. Harry looks a lot like Diana's brother Charles, the Earl of Spencer. And you notice that Harry's ears stick out a bit, like Prince Charles.
George Lopez & Conan O'Brien Are Making History Together Tomorrow! {Celestrellas}
Jun 9th 2011 4:55PM I seem to remember that Letterman appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Then, Carson was on Late Night with David Letterman that same evening.
Letterman had taken Late Night to Los Angeles (or should I say Burbank, where NBC is located) for a week. Johnny taped his show at 5:30 PT, and Letterman taped at 6:30 PT.
And I seem to remember that both were wearing similar attire, blue blazers with white shirts and gray trousers. Except Dave was wearing sneakers. Johnny was wearing dress shoes.
