Will a Philly Championship Calm the City's Notorious Fans? {Asylum}

Oct 17th 2008 11:40AM It would be nice if you would have taken the time to find ACTUAL pictures from these games for your gallery instead of the stock photos you used. Lazy.

Apple's MacBook gets a fresh face, NVIDIA graphics, original drops to $999 {Engadget}

Oct 14th 2008 5:50PM I'm very disappointed. A friend of mine has been waiting to buy a Macbook. I told him the rumors I have been reading about a lower price (even as low as $800), an aluminum case, and a more powerful NVidia graphics chip. I also read about how people have been complaining that the price of Macs is still staying high, whereas PCs have been falling in price. So now the wait is over and all that I can tell my friend is, "Hey you waited a few months to save $100 on the same Macbook you could have gotten over the summer." That sucks. Apple dropped the ball on this one. Major disappointment. I will not recommend them again unless someone has a lot of money to spend. Linux doesn't play games like this.

Cloaking device could shield pacemakers from malicious signals {Engadget}

Aug 25th 2008 11:01AM Maybe I am wrong about this, but in the picture of the old guy with the pacemaker, shouldn't the "bump" in his chest where the pacemaker resides be on his left side and not on his right? Did they flip the picture or do some people get their pacemaker implanted on the right side of their chest?

Deutsche Telekom / T-Mobile demands Engadget Mobile discontinue using the color magenta {Engadget}

Apr 1st 2008 12:22AM I am changing cell phone providers. I will not be using T-Mobile.

Deutsche Telekom / T-Mobile:

My skin color is white, but I have been tanning a bit so it is now somewhat brown. Please have all of the people working at your company cease and desist using the same skin color as me because third parties could mistake your employees for me. If you find any products in your offices that may have this same color as my skin, please let me know so I can go after you about that too. I don't want anyone to mistake say a manila folder at your company with me.

Sincerely,
Dennis

(Please, no comments comparing the intelligence of the manila folder with mine. It would be a close comparison but I think I would still be a few IQ points higher.)

One year down: How do the PlayStations stack up? {Joystiq Playstation}

Nov 25th 2007 8:09PM Some text in your article under the "Launch" heading doesn't sound right to me:

Sony reported the PS3 was the fastest PlayStation console to reach 1 million sales, only taking the new machine six weeks to hit the landmark. Although reliable sales figures for the PS2 and PS1 are hard to come by today, the PlayStation 2 was breaking records in its own right when it launched. In the first 24 hours, the PlayStation 2 sold 500,000 units ...

So if Sony broke a PS record by reaching 1 million sales of PS3 in six weeks, and PS2 sold 500,000 units in the first 24 hours, then are you trying to tell me that the PS2 could not sell the second 500,000 units in five weeks and six days following the launch? That sounds fishy.

Why would there be such an overwhelming demand of 500,000 units for the PS2 on opening day, but then a sharp decline so that the same number couldn't be sold in the following 5 weeks, 6 days? Please explain, or is that the part about the reliable sales figures not being available for PS2? And if those figures are that unreliable as to not even make common sense, why are they included here?

Apple working on pressure sensitive touchscreens {TUAW.com}

Oct 7th 2007 12:26PM I saw a demo of a pressure-sensitive touchscreen at a major company where I was working in 1990. You could do things like changing the volume of a video playing by pressing the software volume control icon down harder to make the volume go up more, or softer to get a slight change up. (I don't recall how they made the volume go down, whether that was a different icon, etc.)

But why has it taken more than a decade and a half to start seeing more mainstream products use touch control and features like multiple simultaneous touch and pressure sensitive touch?

Palm kills the Foleo dead {Engadget}

Sep 5th 2007 3:39AM How long ago was it that Palm promised to make Linux-based Treo smartphones which would also run Palm apps? That product line is rapidly becoming vaporware.

I am still pissed at Palm because of the horrible experience I had buying my first Palm product. I bought my Palm Treo 650 directly from Palm's website two years ago or so because they had a $100 rebate. When my new Treo shipped, it was activated at the factory before it was shipped out. What that meant to me was that since I was transferring my cell phone number from my old carrier, suddenly I had no cell phone service. I was without my primary phone as I had no home phone for three days until I received the already-activated Treo from UPS. Not only that, I was charged for my new cell phone service during those three days.

I tried to complain to Palm, but one of their lawyers pointed out the fine print on their website that said they were going to do that to me when I placed my order. I guess if the fine print on the Palm website said they were going to break into my house and rob me, and I hadn't noticed that clause, then that would be perfectly OK too.

Palm also tried to bilk me out of the $100 rebate, but the same lawyer did finally get me that without admitting their wrong-doing in trying to deny it after I scanned and emailed copies of my rebate submission.

So how likely will it be that I purchase another Palm product in this lifetime? With Palm, the customer is always wrong.
