Something Smells Fishy: Marc Jacobs Talks Justin Bieber's 'Someday' Fragrance Bottle {Stylelist (Main)}

Jun 1st 2011 4:08PM Bastardized quote or not, Jacobs open recognition of the limitations and invariable repetition in creation is not only admirable, but pretty singular in a part of the world where self-centeredness (in creating history and everything else) is the norm.

Sketchy or Straightforward? CoverGirl Mascara Ad Uses Fake Lashes for 'True Volume' {Stylelist (Main)}

May 31st 2011 12:18PM OK. What's ridiculous about these charges? Could it be that ALL commercials for beauty products do not (merely) show the results of the advertised product??? When we see the sleek, blond Beyonce extoling L'Oreal hair color, are we thinking, "Gee. Feria does a great job on her natural hair!"? (The same applies to Gwen Stefani.) Anyone naively thinking that shouldn't be allowed to see any beauty/fashion advertisement. Every -- and I mean EVERY -- ad is "adjusted" in terms of lighting, digital erasure/enhancement, and all other sorts of effects...and some are wholly invented. Wigs and extenstions are used in hair-product commercials, fake lashes in those for mascara products, glycerine and colored lenses in ads for enhancing eye cosmetics, etc., etc., Do you think the models promoting anti-aging skin creams haven't had fillers and surgeries?? Do you even believe they even USE the cheap creams they sell on TV?? These sorts of articles are bad because they imply that most advertisements are, otherwise, honest.

Chelsy Davy to Wear Two Royal Wedding Dresses by Alberta Ferrerti {AOL Royal Wedding}

Apr 28th 2011 3:26PM The in-the-know journalists covering the style of this wedding write above:
"Alberta Ferretti revealed to People that Chelsy Davy will be wearing two of his [sic] designs..."
Ms. Ferretti apparently needs to be informed about her recent sex change. I've been noticing with increasing frequency that AOL bloggers seem to be...ummm...unprepared for writing assignments and without any competent supervising editor. What's up with that?

Family Kitchen Makeover: From "Ugliest" to Unbelievable {Shelterpop}

Apr 28th 2011 12:53PM Oh, pleeease! Check out MH, BHG, AI, and other popular design magazines and you will, repeatedly, see that people with means are ripping out dark, cliched, and never-inspired kitchens like the "after", remodeled version and replacing them with retro-fitted rooms. Purposely vintage always works because it makes no pretense of being current. The very notion of a contemporary kitchen is an invention of designers, manufacturers, and their publicity arms (such as this site) bent on making gullible people perpetually fretful that whatever they have is out-of-date and somehow wrong.

Victoria's Secret Destroys Returned, Unworn Merchandise {Stylelist (Main)}

Apr 27th 2011 11:41PM While I'm sure that VS has its fair share of shoplifters, the corporation ALSO wholesales its remainders to outlet sellers. Don't forget VS sells a full line of non-lingerie clothes and shoes via catalogue; it does not destroy all the returns.

Victoria's Secret Destroys Returned, Unworn Merchandise {Stylelist (Main)}

Apr 27th 2011 8:37PM What I'm thinking is that the Florida customer was insulted by the obvious implication that -- despite her protestations to the contrary -- the pants had been worn or just tried on too much to be fresh enough for resale. Since VS ultimately outlets their leftovers (just check eBay), it makes no sense that they'd destroy fresh items. The very idea of worn underpants making their way back to the racks is horrifying and one can only hope not any part of a fetishistic VS policy.

Report: Scarlett Johansson Moves In With Sean Penn {PopEater}

Apr 13th 2011 9:56PM Seriously! Does electronic print mean there is no longer a need to proofread? Is there no editor? I'll let others argue about the value of the content, but in form alone, this is a really poor excuse for (even celebrity) journalism.

Kathy Griffin Flaunts Svelte Figure in Florida {PopEater}

Apr 5th 2011 1:26PM Say what you like about what is, obviously, a very unflattering photo, BUT don't spread lies. She happens to be a teetotaler, so don't call her a drunk.

Stars Who Choose Surrogacy to Become Parents {PopEater}

Apr 3rd 2011 9:50PM OK. Let's get something straight In this context, surrogacy refers to a substitute womb. Men (like Elton John or Neil Patrick Harris) do NOT have children borne of surrogates; they enlist women to bear (presumably their) children through non-sexual insemination. In fact, if these female celebrity ova were not used in the insemination procedures, they, too, have not enlisted (physiological) surrogates. But to talk about about male surrogacy in this context is utterly ridiculous.

Missy Elliott, Keri Hilson Deny Lesbian Relationship {The Boombox}

Mar 19th 2011 7:10PM Can someone please tell me why the [sic] insertion appears after Hilson's cited tweet? What's wrong with what she wrote? And why the hell are there quotation marks at the end of the first paragraph?
I realize the blog's about music, but it involves WRITING. Are there no literate bloggers available...or at least competent editors?
