'House' Star Lisa Edelstein Stars in Controversial 'Right to Choose' Ad {PopEater}

Feb 17th 2011 9:43AM The great tragedy about abortion isn't that it's legal, it's that it wasn't practiced on all the self-proclaimed "christian" fundamentalists who are so opposed to abortion that they're willing to murder to stop it. Curious they never see the contradiction there, isn't it? Perhaps we could get Congress to consider legalizing post-term abortions -- that way we could purge our society of these small-minded bigots and eliminate the problem.

Did Newspapers Fail the American Public? {Politics Daily}

Aug 4th 2009 9:06PM Newpapers didn't fail the public -- the public failed itself. Most Americans these days are too lazy to bother to read a newspaper. Instead, they prefer their "news" packaged in neat little 15-30 second soundbites, and preferably from a biased source that echoes their own narrow view of what they percieve (or wish) events were, rather than what they actually are. In a world whose complexity has gotten so deep that there's no longer a clear black/white or good/bad, the masses want someone to simplify it all for them, tell them what to believe and what to think, and contrary opinions or shades of gray be damned. Joseph Gobbels would have had a field day leading a pack of sheep like us around, and it's only a matter of time before some demagogue realizes that reality and exploits it to take power and end out little experiment with democracy. We're our own worst enemies.

Drunk Clown Needed, Must Bring Own Giant Red Shoes {Asylum}

Sep 1st 2008 2:09AM Top 10 drunks and no entry for W.C. Fields??!? The man built a hugely successful career as a comedian entirely based on being drunk. How can you not love a man who coined the phrases: "Water? Never touch the stuff, it rusts pipes you know!" and "Water's a filthy liquid; I'd never drink it. Fish f*ck in it!"

Going Medieval in Iraq: A Soldier Loses It {Asylum}

Jan 24th 2008 3:10PM Interesting article, and I applaud Cpl Martinez's courage. But you have to wonder about the competence of the editor who posted this story about a US Marine with the photograph of two British soldiers. Maybe the editor should try doing just a little bit of research before putting their ignorance on display?

Venus Williams: Man! I Feel Like a Woman {Blackvoices Main}

Nov 15th 2007 1:36PM I'm not a big tennis fan. But it occurs to me that I can name a handful of female tennis stars just off the top of my head: Maria Sharpova, Monica Seles, Anna Kournikova, and of course the Williams sisters. As for male tennis stars, there's...
Uh. Let's see...
Yeah! Andre Aggassi. Oh, that's right, he's retired.
Uh.
Hmmm.
Someone wanna explain to me why the no-name males are getting paid more than the fairly well known women in this sport? This isn't a case of "gender bias," this is a case of simple economic stupidity.

Private Party at the Burj Al Arab {Luxist}

May 28th 2006 5:56PM Oh come on, let's be honest. Spending the $1.8M isn't about celebrating a birthday or "having a good time" with your friends, it's about conspicuous consumption. About Campbell rubbing all our noses in it that she has butt-loads more money than we can even dream of having. Sure, she presents a sweet girl-next-door image on her TV show, but that's all Madison Avenue hype -- her name and her looks are a (very successful) business, and part of that business is all about making the rest of us envious, wishing that we too could be one of the wealthy "beautiful people."

I don't begrudge Ms. Campbell any of her wealth or success. She worked hard for it and deserves it. But anyone who buys into the line that this party has anything to do about having fun with her friends has bought into the PR spin doctor's lies hook, line and sinker (and deserves to be awarded the "dumbest consumer" award).

Who wants to be a mistress of the dark? {AOL TV}

Apr 17th 2006 5:53PM Cute idea, but I loath "reality TV" in general and "American Idol" in particular. There's no chance I'd watch it.
