What's Inside 5-Hour Energy Shots {Asylum}

May 4th 2011 10:50AM As an experiment I bought a box of four of these for $10, the "5 Hour Energy" brand. I'm sure they vary by brand. For me, coffee makes me feel like crap and makes it hard to sleep, but does not give me energy. I drank a bottle of this stuff at about 2:30 PM yesterday and was HELLA wired all day long. Actually had a bit of trouble getting to sleep at 10PM, normally not a problem for me. I'm 45 years old, work out frequently, good physical shape, excellent diet. I have always dozed off in the afternoon. Uh... not yesterday! I'm going to try it today at 11AM to try to avoid the sleepiness but still get a full day's productivity.
My questions remaining are, will I develop a tolerance so they get less effective, and can I get the same results with a couple B vitamins, a little salt, and a cup of coffee? But at less than $2 per bottle, if it keeps working it's actually not a bad deal I think.

Quicken Essentials for Mac now available {TUAW.com}

Mar 14th 2010 10:54AM I agree this is too expensive, and I'm disappointed at the lack of stock tracking and other features that were in Q2005. Nonetheless, I bought this and am sticking with it because it does integrate with my banks in a better fashion, and because the GUI is pretty good. How well does iBank integrate with the various banks out there? Most of my time in the software is entering data, and the analysis that I use it for is nominal. I do wish the other features were there, but other tools are no better.
I guess I can look at iBank again, but last I used it, it could not import my data successfully. I guess I could just move forward with it and use Quicken for my historical data before now, but that seems a PITA.
I tried MoneyDance and that was a terrible experience. The GUI is from hell, typical of Java-based software on Mac, and the promise of fast development cycles was BS. They never updated it while I owned and used it.
I think Quicken would do well to make data more export-friendly. Then users could supplement Quicken with other tools. I hate Intuit and I hope a worthy competitor really springs up. Until then, Quicken Essentials for me is like democracy: it's the worst tool for the job you could imagine, except for all the others.
They are charging a premium because Mac is a small market with deep pockets. The profit margin is the only thing that makes it worth developing for Mac, I'm guessing.

iPhone OS 3.0 is coming, preview on March 17th {Engadget}

Mar 12th 2009 4:36PM VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO --- wtf Apple? How about a VIDEO CAMERA on my cell phone?

iPhone firmware 1.1.3 video walkthrough posted {Engadget}

Dec 31st 2007 10:43AM There's no logic, dude. Apple just hasn't done everything it could with the iPhone. No video, no copy and paste, no To Do list... hmm. But as usual they really nailed "sexy." It's a very cool phone. It just lacks features.

Dec 31st 2007 10:39AM I won't be upgrading -- I like the ability to do VNC on my iPhone with the jailbreak stuff more than I need a half-baked GPS solution. I already have GPS -- what we need are some REALLY cool features like REAL GPS integrated with Google maps. Plus super cool messaging and chat all integrated into ONE application. And let's not forget Copy and Paste, and a real honest-to-god To Do list for grown ups to use.

Leopard Spotlight: iPhone notes syncing confirmed {TUAW.com}

Oct 19th 2007 7:16PM They have modified that blurb very recently, it now reads "2. "Your notes folder acts like an email mailbox, so you can retrieve notes from any Mac or PC." The reference to the iPhone has been deleted! Great. :-(
