Aug 28th 2009 8:20AM There is more to life than looking for insult in every toy or advertisement. IF this had been marketed as an insult and ONLY the darker skin-toned dolls had monkeys THEN I would consider it an insult. However, it appears that ALL the dolls had the same thing. What does this say to young African-American girls who happen to like monkeys (or any primates for that matter)? What about the child who sees the other versions with their cute accessories and thinks "why isn't there one that looks like ME?" I thought that was why there was so much uproar to get a "black" Disney Princess or Barbie-type dolls. Pull ALL the dolls or have them ALL on the shelves.

Aug 28th 2009 12:13AM This blog isn't racially inspired? Then what is all the ranting about a Khoisan woman who was used and abused 200 years ago and likening Caster's plight to her's? What is all the ranting about abusive EUROPEANS? Do we know that it was a "white" (implied) person who "leaked" the information? I agree that Caster has been subjected to public ridicule not so much by the Track and Field, but by the media (which includes writer's of blogs) who are keeping her in the top headlines to sell themselves. However, I feel that the author owes today's "Europeans" an apology for implying that they are all abusive racists. Quite frankly, for Caster's long term health, I hope they answer the questions of hormonal imbalances and what might be causing them. Caster deserves to be aware of any and all risks to her health. On a side note, I looked up Saartjie and couldn't find any mention of her being the "first" anything. Only that she was made promises that MEN failed to keep and instead used and abused her. May she rest in the peace that the last years of her life didn't have.

May 22nd 2009 4:36PM While the employer has certain rights (within limits) to require employees to conform to certain standards, sometimes I think they really need to think about what it is that they want.

What was this young lady's work ethic, were her customers happy with the service that she gave them, any complaints, etc.? Did they keep wait staff that put on make-up but were poor performers and had stacks of complaints?

On a side note, since she doesn't wear make-up normally, on her taxes could she deduct the expense as "business related" ?

Apr 10th 2009 1:36PM Glen is handling his recovery just like Obama is his. I find it interesting when people bring up people recovering from addiction and point out the costs in human lives, etc., but conviently leave out the top recovering addict currently in our nation who just happens to occupy the Oval office.

As for Glen's theatrics, they keep me amused enough to stay somewhat level-headed when watching the news. Just the thought of Glen wrapping up a dead fish helps take the edge off the anger so that I DON'T use curse words when writing my representatives.

Apr 5th 2009 1:32AM I find it interesting that many are so upset that the parents didn't want their childrn singing this song that they miss the bigger problem-the only options given to the children were to sing it or not participate at all. If the children had been given another part or allowed to sit out this one song, the parents probably wouldn't have been as angered. However, they were being punished for their beliefs which is very much against the Constitution.

If God is in YOUR heart, then HE is everywhere you are. He is in your words and actions if you truely believe and NO ONE can take HIM away from you. It shouldn't be the responsibility of others to bring Him to you. Why should it take the prayers, songs, plaques, etc. of others to keep YOU living the way YOU know YOU should.

Our founding fathers believed in God, however, THEY believed that MAN had to do the work not sit around and wait for God to do it.

It also seems that this party was for Swingers not Nudists. They seem to know the difference even if this couple didn't. It still doesn't excuse him for making anyone feel uncomfortable by treating them like a cake in the bakery window. Though, I wonder if his wife was joining in the fun.

Feb 23rd 2009 8:56AM What kind of business model or lesson does it teach the girls? That people will buy anything if you put a good story with it? That quality and quantity don't matter?

Buying boxes of cookies just "to support" the Girl Scouts seems like a good idea until you stop and think about what it is teaching them about business. If you want to donate then donate. However, (and I feel this way about all fund raisers) if people continue to buy over-priced, poor quality merchandise to show "support" then they need to rethink the business ethics that are being instilled. Especially this Cookie season when people placing orders weren't told about the changes.

Feb 6th 2009 12:03PM Ok so the mosquitoes were supposedly ALL male (males don't bite) and lab raised. Were they all killed so that they didn't get out into enviroment and exacerbate the problems already being experienced by Americans? For those like Gates who aren't thinking ahead: MALE mosquito meets willing FEMALE mosquito and produces many more male and female mosquitoes who go on to make Gate's mosquitoes granddaddies. This was not an innocent prank with no consequences as some want it to be.

Jan 10th 2009 9:53AM This story leaves out a lot of details like how she was arrested in the first place. The linked article says that she had seven (admitted by her) drinks at the pub then wandered over to a friend's house and had more to drink and fed her baby there (not in public). It doesn't say how police got involved. Did her "friend" turn her in? If so then he/she is a better friend to the child.

As for the "bring a bottle 'advice'", some babies will not take a bottle. My daughter refused to even consider a bottle instead of the breast no matter what we tried.
