Ten Secrets to Getting Promoted {AOL Jobs}
Nov 25th 2010 4:16PM Jules said... "I was told I had too much self confidence."
Does that mean too sure of yourself? I've had that issue, and concluded that I sometimes I needed to ask higher ups for permission to do things that were part of my job description. Other wise some managers felt that I was a "loose cannon," someone who couldn't be controlled. And they felt uncomfortable, perhaps fearing that I would do something that their managers would blame them for, and that was career threatening.

Kissing a** has always been why I got overlooked. And I refused to play that sort of game which I think is really stupid.
Getting someones permission to do what your job description says you should do may sound like ass kissing, or could be seen as greasing the wheels of production and performance, and therefore ones career. It's strange that in sales, as well as good management, building rapport is considered important, but when it comes to relating to a higher up it's considered ass kissing.

"It is NOT the schools job to teach character traits, social skills, morals or CPR." Yet any study of history, and many of English, are involved specifically with discovering and evaluating those issues. Human relations, politics, use and misuse of power, corruption in government and religion, are all the subjects of character traits, social skills, and morals. And closer to home, those are the issues that must be addressed in controlling the classroom. Bullying, domination, and emotional sabotage in school is an issue for all time.
"Reese should be praised for his bravery and then taught why it was wrong for him to jump into a situation that needed an adult." Amazing that she thinks the kid should wait for an "authority" (adult) to act. I thought one objective of education is to teach competence and taking personal responsibility. Especially since it seems that no competent adults were taking action. Sheesh.
The Daily Fix: Clean Up a Keyboard Spill {DIY Life}
Jun 12th 2010 2:37PM Cheap key boards? Target, Tiger Direct, Walmart....etc, etc.. REALLY cheap keyboards; Yard sales, Goodwill, local thrift stores. I guess when people upgrade they often get an extra keyboard; Goodwill checks electronics to verify they work. They have lots of people with time on their hands, and no profit motivatioin.
However, if my Logitech wireless keyboard needed replacing, i haven't seen any at thrift stores. Bought it in 2002, with camera and mike, on sale for $20. No problems. Spilled iced tea on it once. Turned it upside down over the sink, shook it hard. Then holding it upside down used sink sprayer gently to rinse it of sticky stuff. It was alrready wet, so if wet would kill it, it was already dead. Let it air dry upside down for 4 or more hours. It came out fine, worked normally, with the sides of the keys clean for the first time since it was new. :D
For Men Who Considered the Snip When Parenting Became a Trip {BV on Love}
May 24th 2010 5:49PM I did it when I was 36. My spouse was on the pill, had "spotting" too frequently. We had three kids already, from 13 to 10. Two boys, then a girl, made it complete enough, and I was satisfied that I would be relatively young when my oldest was 20.
So I had it done. It was a relief that my wifes health would not be threatened by the pill. Though the afternoon I came home from it I had two Black Russian's to relax my mind from anxiety, no matter how unjustifiable.
They were alcohol Black Russians, not human ones; my wife proably would have objected. Though now I wonder if that might have been a bargaining point. :-)

Apr 15th 2010 12:57PM Tracfone rolls over minutes based on ninety days more each time from previous date. I'm good till Dec. 2010 without any new purchase. And there are regular double your minutes offers.
I'm a moderate user, so my cost is under $80/year. It's worth looking into. 10 cents a minute anytime.
