May 28th 2012 3:20PM Although anytime to drive down the Coast is a good time, I always liked driving it in early Spring or early Autumn when the tourist traffic is gone. Driving slow with no traffic behind you blowing their horn is the best drive you'll ever have. Also it's nice to stop in one of the towns for a meal and not have to compete with the tourists for a seat. If you want to do something special, stop off at the Monterey Bay Aquarium or Cannery Row. Carmel is worth a look - without the tourists.

A 50-pound suitcase doesn't use-up nearly the fuel as a 300-pond passenger. It's time to put a scale at the check-in cointer and have people pay extra for their "extra load."
