Banning Bad Tippers - What Can I Get You Folks? {Slashfood}

Mar 5th 2010 3:43PM Sorry to say, there is a whole other Federal minimum wage for restaurant workers and it varies from city to city and state to state. They do this and have always done this because everyone knows waiting and cleaning tables amounts to little more than slave labor, but with the provisio that, presumably, you're really working for tips. Problem in this story is that tipping is not the norm in every culture. You don't serve people who don't tip and you eliminate every Australian and New Zealander, Germans tip but not hugely, etc.

Tipping is a personal preference and if you don't allow anybody into your restaurant because they don't tip or don't tip well (what IS "well", anyway?) then you're going to close. Instead of requiring a tip, add the percentage to the cost of the plate in the price, especially if you're going to pool tips.

Feb 28th 2010 2:08PM Most of the stats I've seen say 50% of the worlds population already live in cities, so I'm not so sure it's all that improbable that in 40 years, another 24% will be there. I suspect, mostly for convenience to everything. Supply of and demand for technology will probably surpass other reasons for living where you do. "Can you hear me now?" in the future will be much more necessary, etc. But here's the real kicker as far as I'm concerned. I've seen, in my 53-ish years, southern California go from a garden state to a single gigantic concrete city from LA to San Diego. So the way we see cities now will probably change entirely as well. Maybe the entire Northeast corridor will become one big city from Washington DC to Portland, ME?

Student Braves Controversy, Refuses to Recite Pledge {ParentDish}

Nov 14th 2009 3:02PM Here's an interesting one to ponder. Indivisible. It's in the Pledge. Yet this country has been getting more divided every day on nearly any subject or point or consideration or bill or statement that hits the airwaves or print. Personally, I think we're heading for country full of free-for-alls; a country without law, morality, sense or direction because the only thing that seems to be united about the United States is the term United States itself. People talk about another civil war coming. I don't think so. There would be far too many fronts. I think I country-wide barroom brawl would be more likely.

Walmart levies lifetime ban against gay couple {Daily Finance}

Nov 10th 2009 9:25AM Yeah, Wal*Mart was correct in checking the receipt if there was any doubt, but if the lighters were listed on it, that should've been the end of it.

Someone in an earlier post mentioned that retailers can ban anyone for any legal reason. Since these people didn't do anything illegal, they have no legal reason to ban them. And being prejudice isn't a legal reason.
