Jun 15th 2006 3:38PM The problem with the Tonight audience is that it's formed on the day of the show, so it's easy to pack the audience. Also, guests get a certain number of tickets, and NBC has VIP seats.

Letterman does things totally differently. They allow same-day standbys, but you have to write in for tickets far in advance (I hear that you can go to the studio at 5 PM and get into Leno). This is why Letterman was able to make Rush Limbaugh cry.
