Are You Dating a Man or a Boy? 10 Home Goods That Will Tell You {Lemondrop}

Jan 2nd 2011 10:12PM Maybe this article should have been titled, Am I a spoiled shallow princess for caring about stupid things. If women waste their time deciding on the charecter of a guy based on stuff like this no wonder so many women wind up with dirt bags.

Guess what, I have q-tips, don't drink, have a fridge and freezer packed with perishables, matching silverware, etc... If i ever met a woman that was impressed by that i would dump her in a minute.

How about a woman that cares about the fact that I tutor poor kids in math and science, take care of my elderly mother, am a good father, have my own sucessful business, have the courage to speak up against unjustice, can actually fix things, have a couple of degrees, believe in gender equality, never have hit a woman or child nor started a fight, save about half my income and don't go in debt (partly because I don't pay attention to stupid things)...

This women needs to get grown up priorities...

get some prio

Baby Einstein Videos 'Like Crack for Babies', but Kids Don't Learn From Them {ParentDish}

Sep 9th 2010 5:27AM You can't disagree with a study by just giving a personal anecdote. They followed theinstructions on the video, They tried some variations. You don't know if your child would have done better or worse without these videos because you have nothing to compare him to and no systematic observations. Your son might have done better worse or the same without these videos. A controlled study involving many children carefully measured and observed shows that most children do better without them. I am not surprised, people are made to learn from other people, not psparkly machines that don't listen, touch, talk back, respond, love, and care.

Sep 9th 2010 5:19AM If your son is not learning words from real life but is imm
itating sounds from a videotape, you neeed to get him to a developmental langauge specialist immediately. I have seen this before , your son may be autistic and early intervention can make a big difference.

Apr 24th 2010 3:44AM Anytime a young person has a stroke I think he was probably binge drinking. I worked in the neuropsyche department of the Uiowa hospitals and clinics. We saw person under the age of 30 about every 2 months that had a stroke. They had always been drinking heavy within the last 71 hours.

Teachers Suspended for Gym Lap Dance {Asylum}

Mar 19th 2010 6:31AM I think people are missing a major point here. If teachers show no daring and are nothing but a bunch of uptight stuffed shirts teens will never take them seriously. I would never do this as a teacher and I think it is ill advised for a variety of reasons, but teachers alienate students when the cease to be fun loving full human-beings true to themselves. I will wager heavy money that all the students in those teachers class listened more carefully the next day and took what he/she said more seriously, because he saw them as someone real that takes risks. If even one student the next day said, "well this teacher isn't so lame so maybe I won't be boring if I take math seriously" it was a net victory.

Oh also, if any of you out there think this is corrupting your kids, you are not paying attention to what really goes on in your kids lives. I have seen it a million times. the kids with the strictest parents are the ones that take the stupidest risks and simply learn to hide it from mom and dad.

Dueling Blogs: Is Quentin Tarantino Ready for His Closeup? {Moviefone Blog}

Feb 15th 2010 8:49PM Funny, but just a couple days ago I was thinking about this very topic and it had been a long time since I saw a QT movie.

I really like his movies, and find them wonderfully entertaining, but at the end of it I don't feel like I have learned something or seen something I have not seen before. QT has mastered and in fact elevated the style of 70's exploitation movies in every way except their meaning.

His moview evoke in me "cool", "kick ass", "awesome" or maybe a general feeling of "What style!", "How does he think up this stuff!". But I don't experience "OMG I had never thought of that", "This changes how I look at the world", "I have just touched something bigger than myself", "Now I know something about being human I never knew before", "I hope people aren't really like that or I wish people could be more like that" or "This world is so F'd up and we need to do something about it.".

I also realized that on a deep level I don't really care what happens to his charecters. I mean, I route for his protagonists and all, but if the movie ends with them "dying in a blaze of glory" or "living happily ever after", both would "awesome". We wind up caring more about the conflict than the people.

Compare this to other violent action movies like blade-runner, a clockwork orange, fight club, the thing, the God-Father, The Empire Strikes Back, Serpico, The Matrix, Momento, The 7 Samurai, Roshmon, Saving Private Ryan, etc... They all leave me feeling changed, rather than just wow'd entertained.

I am very glad the QT exists and I will continue to watch his movies, but I get the feeling that he latched on to the worst sensational aspects of 70's cinema and made it excellent. He does not make movies that change people or the world in which we live in meaningful ways. His view is perpetually childlike amd superficial.
