Stepdaughter Disrespectful and Aggressive: What Can We Do? {ParentDish}
Nov 20th 2010 2:20PM I am truly disappointed in this article.
As the step-mother I would like to say my step-son was manipulated by not only his mother but his older brother as well. I would have to leave my home, or spend it in the bedroom so I wouldn't interfere, so that he, his father and brother could have their weekends together. My children were farther away and I was unable to spend the time with them because we only had funding for his children to do things. I worked 2 jobs most of our marriage.
When we moved to another state, my husband's ex sent the then 14 year old boy to live with us. He broke things, lied, called me ugly names, tried to start the house on fire, called long distance OFTEN, beat our 8 year old up and nearly killed him,tried to punch me several times, got in fights at school, stole from his father, and then as we were headed out the door to take him back to his mother, he tried to ask for my forgiveness to stay.
His mother says he went to therapy, it didn't work. He sat there for each hour and stared at the carpet or out the window. Al the while she continued with the psychological brainwashing-- "You don't have to listen to a word she (me) says, she's not your mother. If your Dad loved you we'd still be together as a family. Just remember second family children don't count. Your supposed to come first!"
I'm sorry but I did everything that your article suggested but at 21, this young man is still lashing out. He lived with his brother and his wife for about 2 years, playing video games in the basement. He is in constant trouble with the law. He threatened to beat his brother in his own yard. He says it's all his fathers fault. He won't hold a job for more than a few weeks and his mother says that his brother needs to be more supportive of him?
My husband put his children way ahead of where I was able to put mine, yet mine have a greater respect for us than his do.
A Room With A (Point Of) View {ParentDish}
Mar 1st 2010 2:06AM My family moved frequently, so having my own room was never really an issue. Home is where you hang your hat.
My husband's folks, on the other hand, lived in the same house for 41 years and recently moved to another town at the urging of his older bother and sister. He was devastated!! This was the house that he had lived in since he was 18 months old!!! Although he understood the reasoning behind the move, it was still hard to part with the feelings- bare in mind he hadn't really lived there since he was 18 and left for the military. It was still a familiar "home base" where all were "in free." Since then his father has passes and his mother is living in a two br duplex with his brother next door to help her get to appointments and run errands. We try to help out when we come up to visit- their 500 miles away. We know there is a guestroom for those visits from us or the great-grand children.
My parents have moved on, there is a guestroom, or the sofa in the living room, or you can sleep out on the patio if it's warm enough and not raining. I think of it as my parents- I've grown up they should be allowed to as well.
REPORT: Rural roads more dangerous than congested urban areas {Autoblog}
Oct 8th 2009 10:58AM I too live in a very rural area of Texas population 12,000-our town has 3 stoplights and one flashing yield. The road I live on is a 45 mph limit and I see at least 5 Highway patrol officers running down our road each day, and at least 10 city cop cars going by. If there is a traffic stop, it takes 3 cop cars to take care of it.

Oct 8th 2009 10:43AM If I can't talk on my cell phone while riding my motorcycle others shouldn't be driving while talking on their phones either, it's just makes sense. I've been hit in a parking lot by a lady talking on her cell phone- I was walking in a crosswalk!!! And she tried to make it out to be my fault!!! She said, "SHE WAS BIGGER AND SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY!!!??"

Why Does Everybody Misspell My Daughter's Name? {ParentDish}
Sep 22nd 2009 6:26AM My name is Janis I was named after my fathers cousin Janice. NO ONE gets it right! I've seen Janice, Janis, Jannise, Janus (the Greek god of January), and Janise. I've been called Jan, Janet, Jane, Janie, and a host of names that are unmentionable. My sons' name is Bret, after Bret Hendican, a hockey player. His grandparents called him Brat for the first 2 years, even though I had written it out for them numerous times. I got to the point where I just chalked it up to them being older folks and unable to hear well and left it at that.

Sep 22nd 2009 6:02AM Like most stories that get displayed by the media, I'm sure that there is more to this one than meet the eye. I know for a fact that most of the Wal-Mart employees make a little more than minimum wage especially if your in some of the more specialized areas. I'm sure that this was checked with the department supervisor, and the store manager before the person went to the police and social services over this matter. Otherwise they will be receiving a disciplinary action.
But I agree with all of you, this person really over reacted and went too far. I recall a picture of me, my brother and sister in the tub together, my mother took it and still has it in her possession. I had a picture of my 4 boys (ages 1,3,5,7) in the tub together, now 20, 21, 23, 26. And had planned to use it as blackmail with girlfriends if I thought the boys overstepped the line. (Hahaha)
Before you know it, someone will say that ANY PICTURE taken of a child in a tub, pool, even in a bathing suit could be considered pornography and should be censored. Where will we be then?
Cross Stitching Makes a Comeback {Shelterpop}
Jul 14th 2009 7:19AM I haven't gotten out my cross stitch things in years. I used to work on them for hours and hours when my children were small. Now my oldest is 27 and on his own. I guess I could start again. : )
5 People Who Won the Lottery in Spite of Themselves {Asylum}
Jun 17th 2009 10:40AM I read once, awhile ago, and wrote down these tips for when I win the Lotto:
1. Don't tell ANYONE you've won, not friends nor family members.
2. Seek out an attorney to form a "Blind Trust".
3. Work a few more days before you claim your ticket.
4. DO NOT claim the ticket in your own name.
and last but not least....
5. BUDGET, budget, budget!!!
I thought that these suggestions were rather clever and sounded like a pretty simple plan.
I'm ready. How about you?
Cat Fur Sweaters for Everyone {Lemondrop}
Jan 7th 2009 9:57AM I always wondered what I could do with all hair after brushing out my sheltie!!! I almost have enough to make two pomeranians! Hey they already use rabbit hair for Angora sweaters and of course theres all sorts of wools from sheep, and the leather belt and shoes you wear, that could have come from any number of exotic or demsetic animals. Not really gross at all. It's not like your eating the animals. Although aligator tastes amazingly like a chicken leg.
