Should You Tip the Housekeeping Staff at a Hotel? {Luxist}

Apr 7th 2010 5:32PM we scrub bathroom floors. disgusting gross bathroom floors. & toilets. & God knows what else. we do more work than most & yet we DO NOT GET PAID MINIMUM WAGE. the government literally expects us to get tips. & when you don't tip us why are we the ones that get penalized? we do our job well and efficiently & make sure your stay is comfortable. hate the government. hate the hotel. thats fine. but don't hate a fellow friend that's just trying to get by. times are tough & a lot of people take any job they can so don't try to say we should find another one. its not great & its not luxurious but we would just like to get paid. i always do the minimum requirement for any room i attend to but if someone does give me a tip, no matter how small, i always appreciate it & often go the extra mile to prove that i deserve it. so moral of the story, tip. even $2 is much better than nothing. you should stop going to the hotel if they charge too much or if you cant afford to tip the housekeeper $2. its not fair to us that we work hard for you & clean up your grossness but get no thanks and no appreciation. the little bit really does count. :]
