Indiana school bans purses in the classroom {ParentDish}

Sep 13th 2008 6:37PM This ban is ridiculous and will not last. There are multiple reasons for purses. First off, what teen girl wants to carry a pad in her pocket? It could very easily fall out and then,atleast for me, it would be horrible! At my school it's just something we don't talk about and stay away from the subject unless you're asking a friend for a sweatshirt because you don't have anything. We have 4 minutes between classes. At my school we are not even allowed at our lockers in between classes! We are allowed before school,at lunch and after school. We HAVE to carry purses.One of my friends has to carry an epipen with her because she has severe allergies to plants and trees. If she comes near them she needs her epipen fast! She doesn't have time to get a pass written out,travel up or down possibly 4 floors,mess with her lock and then jab the needle in her leg.We would need an ambulence.We aren't all bad and superficial and carry our stuff so we can play makeup artist in class. We don't use cell's either. There is a time and place and with a few exceptions,everybody knows that.Of course some men wouldn't understand! They wouldn't have to deal with the embarrasment of a big bloodstain on their pants because they couldn't get to their locker,go to the bathroom,locker again and get to class in four minutes! If somebody saw this girl before she could borrow a sweatshirt and get home,she might be ridiculed and laughed at for weeks. You would figure that the boys our age would be just as embarrased to see it and have to tell her. The older boys do not care! They just laugh and point while you have to just take it until you can fix things.Having them available for free would be impossible for us.Our school just don't have the cash to keep a supply of every possible thing and size individuals use. It won't last.
