Orange is the New Red {Shopping Articles Blog}

Aug 28th 2011 2:44PM All those clothes were DEAD, DULL, AND DISINTERESTING!! I can get those clothes at Wal-Mart. If that was the best they had to offer, we can just keep wearing our old stuff!! I have sent better items to the Salvation Army!!

Green Police: Green products still making questionable claims {WalletPop}

Nov 9th 2010 9:39PM The biggest offenders I see are hybrid cars and wind power!! It costs 18000.00 to 30,000.00 to install a wind power system-including the solar back-up for it when the wind isn't blowing. People think they will get paid for all that extra energy they are generating, but they get billed for electricity they use when they needs it from the grid-at retail prices- and IF they can get the electric company to buy it back, they get paid wholesale prices!! How much electricity can you buy for 30,000.00? At $200.00 a month, it's 150 months!! Unless I miss my guess, it's over 12 years!! The other is the batteries they use for hybrid cars. The manufacture of these batteries causes more ecological damage than millions of cars a year!! AND- you still have to charge them up and that uses electricity!! And I won't even go there with outgassing plastics that are used for everything from clothing and upholstery to TV's and sterios, and millions of other common household items!! Energy Star is a joke!! By the time you pay the extra cost of an Energy Star appliance, you could have STILL made out better with a conventional appliance!! Low water washing machines stink!! If I want something that smells like a wet goat in my house, I'll bring Precious i(my goat) in out of the pen out back!! And trust me, she's one heck of a lawn mower!! And she seeds, weeds and feeds the lawn all at the same time!! I wash dishes by hand, and if the clothes can be worn more than once, they get worn more than once! Food is cooked every day-no fast food or plastic tray TV dinner food here. And if I'm going to use the oven, I bake several things at one time so I don't have to pre-heat the oven again and again. Then it's food that can be heated and eaten over the next couple of days. Showers are short-don't stand in ther until the water heater is empty. Bathe and get out! Shop once a week-don't go to the store unless you're walking! You can do more-but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see we're getting shafted with all this "GREEN" hype!!

Opinion: Sometimes, It's OK to Let Your Kid Be Bullied {ParentDish}

Oct 23rd 2010 2:40AM When my oldest came home repeatedly looking for food the minute he came in the door, I asked if he ate his lunch. He said Willie had taken it from him. I asked how often this happened, he said almost every day. I asked why he let him get by with it. He said if he said anything about it, Willie and his friends would beat him up. I asked why he diodn't go ahead and fight Willie for his lunch, he said it was against ploicy and he would get in trouble. I went to the school, told the principle how I planned on hhandling it and he was to stay out of it. He said he couldn't condone retaliation. I told him it wouldn't be retaliation and he could take the long way getting there to stop it, but he better not get there too soon because I wanted this to stop and this was the best way to end it permanently. Then I went home and told my son that if Willie and his friends started to take his lunch again, he was to find the biggest one on and if he had to pick up a club to beat his butt, do it. He asked what to do if they all jumped him. I assured him that if he got the best of the biggest one, the rest would leave him alone. Sure enough, it happened the next day. When they rounded the corner, my son picked up a 2x4 from the construction they were doing at the school and started swinging on Willie. Willie's brother ran to the office and got the principle - who took the long way- and by the time he got there, Willie and company were running from my son. My son never landed a hit, but it scared Willie so bad, he thought my son had lost his mind!! That was in fourth grade- My son is 40. He and Willie have been the best of friends for years.

When My daughter was being bullied because she is mildly retarded, she stood up to a girl 3 times her size. Mine weighed 78 pounds in high school due to a birth defect. The other girl weighed in around 200 pounds. She just kept on teasing mine and one day my daughter said, " You just wish you were a mama's baby and you wish you even knew who your daddy was! " The girl started chasing her down the hall. When my daughter got to the classroom she was headed for, she heard the girl coming and when she tried to grab for the door, my daughter swung the door open and hit the girl in the face with it. The big cow got a bloody nose, mine had one day in ISS, but she never messed with her again. My daughter is 30 now and has a college degree. That girl had 4 kids and lives on wellfare. Its all good.

When I was in school, things were settled on the schoolgrounds. If you got in a fight, the principle would come down, break it up, check for weapons, and then make you go at it nd settle it right there. The loser got licks or suspension if they were the one who started it, whe winner got 2 days in the office at the special desk, because you were so special! I'm 60.

Sometimes kids just have to settle things with whatever means they have available to them at the time. If you don't let it happen, it just seethes and they think they are expected to be victims. If you don't let them learn to defend themselves, they think they will always have to tolerate the bull others dish out. It is un-American!! And if your kid is a bully, beat that behind! God rounded the bottom and cupped the hand for a reason!! Kids don't mean to get in trouble, but sometimes they forget and need their memory stimulated from the bottom up. When the teacher or the principle calls you in and tells you your kid started a fight or is picking on other kids, don't say it isn't your kid, your kid won't do that!! They will!! There's no shame in defending yourself, but to just pick on others because you can is wrong and you need to fix it where it starts- at HOME.

New Food Stamp Pilot Enlists Discount Produce {Slashfood}

Aug 22nd 2010 9:01PM There has always been a problem with food stamps. I'm 60. Wnhen I was 25, one of the women I worked with had 7 kids. She and her husband had 3-in Texas- her mother was raisinf 4 -in New York. Every 6 months, they took the kids to each state and qualified with all 7. The grandmother collected on all of them-and sold half the food stamps for .50 on the dollar, and they did the same in Texas. The had plenty of cash for beer and drugs. The k,ids loked like hell!! All of them fat and constantly with runny noses from poor nutrition. Where I work now, they still do the same thing because the pepople working full time jobs still qualify for food stamps with what they make. And the other day, my daughter's friend asked me if I wanted to buy some of hers because she needed cigarettes. But these people never get caught, and the government is cutting MY Social Security check because I made too much money last year. EVEN WITH my Social Security-and I get it because my husband died and left me with a disabled child to care for-I barely make it from pay day to pay day. But I refuse to break the law by buying them. I will pawn my wedding rings this monthe to pay for food because my electric bill is so high because of the heat. Giving them discounts on produce won't help. You need to take away soda, candy, cookies and chips. Then cut back on the amount for groceries they get. I can't afford steaks, why should somebody on welfare get them? My family makes do with iced tea made at home and I cook every day. If you're sitting on your dead behind at home drawing a check, you have plenty of time to cook for your kids. Bake cookies and cakes, if that's what you want to feed them. Don't mkae me give up MY nutrition or that of MY child because YOU ARE TOO LAZY TO COOK!!

Postal rates to go up, again {WalletPop}

Jul 6th 2010 6:33PM Great!! Now it will cost 2 cents more for them to get the mail to the wrong place and they'll even take longer to do it!! What does the average postal carrier make an hour? I'll wager it's almost double what I make.

Green Prefab Homes: Will They Save You Money? {Housingwatch}

May 30th 2010 2:16AM Having bought and paid for a farm, only to have some idiot burn everything I owned down to the ground burning trash in a 40 maile an hour wind, I can tell you, not everyone had an opportunity to sae for retirement. We thought we had everything we would need- enough land to raise all our own food, retirement and Social Security to the tune of $2500 a month and everything paid for. But we were so ar out in the country we could not get insurance on the property as there was no fire hydrants of fire department within miles and miles. So shen everything burned, we never recovered. And a house like this wouldn't help, now. My husband died, and now the retirement is half. It's all I can do to pay the taxes and support our disabled daughter. And for the difference in price in conventional housing- you can buy a lot of electricity and natural gas!! And one good hail storm in Texas with baseball sizedhail will take care of the roof-top electricity system, not to mention the tornadoes! And utilities in Texas are not regulated, and the electricity providers-no matter what you hhave been told-- do NOT buy back your extra electricity. And the few that do only give you 3 cents a killowatt hour, but if you have to et it from them, they charge 10 cents! Solar and wind systems can cost $18000.00- and at $300.00 a month for electricity, you don't recover your cost for at least 5 years. And if you have to borrow the money to install it, you'll be 15 years paying for it, costing you 3 times the initial cost, and by then, you'll need a new one- and there's no one to service them if something DOES go wrong. They'll install them but you won't find anyone to fix them if they break down. It costs less o retro-fit your own home and do it on a cash basis as you can save up the money to do it.

Waking During Surgery Like 'Being Entombed in a Corpse,' Woman Says {AOL Health}

May 25th 2010 1:36PM I woke up during my hernia surgery. I said, " Excuse me!" The anesthesiologist said, " Oh, no, young lady. You need to go back to sleep." Then I ended up in the hospital a couple of extra days because the anesthesia did something to my system and I couldn't move from the waist down for 2 days. The doctor never once said anything about it. Ten years later, I still hurt where they did the surgery and can't lift over 15 pounds without hurting over it later.

Following Deaths, a Move in Congress to Ban Drop-Side Cribs {AOL Health}

May 25th 2010 11:11AM I'm sorry- I raised 7 kids-all in drop side cribs. None of them was ever hurt. I watched my babies. I made sure the matresses came all the way into the sides of the rails so they couldn't get in between the rails and the matress. Crib bumpers were not allowed in their beds. And when I put them down to sleep and left them, I tied the rails with a shoe lace and double knotted it so they couldn't get it down. We knew-even back in the 50's-that the rails could drop if the babies worked at it hard enough or bounced around in the cribs enough. I had a "head banger." He broke out the rails in his beds 3 different times!! But he never got hurt. I watched my babies. I had a "preemie." She never got hurt. I had one who was as big as a 2 year old at 7 months!! He never got hurt-even when he climbed over the rails!! I knew he was trying to climb out-so I cut off the legs and brought it down to where if he did fall, he wouldn't get hurt. They never had an over-abundence of blankets in their cribs. If it was cool, they had blanket sleepers so the woudn't have something to get tangled up in. And I never put cribs near a window. No blinds in kids windows-only pull-down shades. No slippery rugs-carpet-no toyboxes with attached lift-up lids-only laundry baskets or paste-board boxes. I didn't have to have the government to tell me how to grow babies. Stairs had child guards so they couldn't go up or down without supervision. We have a farm. The kids were never allowed in the yard when mowing-much less allowed to ride with someone running a riding lawn mower or tractor. When they got big enough they wanted to ride with their dad on the tractor, we had a seat welded on it so they could be strapped in and woudn't fall off. Anf NEVER rode when we were running the shredder. Parents today aren't as prepared to raise children as they used to be. They only parent a couple of hours a day because both have to work. It isn't their fault-it is just the way it is. And because they are so far spread out, they don't have their parents to help like they used to. But I don't care HOW SAFE you try to make things, accidents happen. There's no substitute for constant supervision. You have to watch them. You brought them into this world-safeguard them. Be responsible. Your congressman is not going to move into your house and watch your kids. It is your job. Do your job, and if you aren't prepared to do it in earnest- don't have kids.
