It doesn't hurt to splurge every once in a while which I do but we have to learn to live within our means. I hate credit agencys and will not use them. If all I can afford to eat is beans and ramen noodles, I either eat them or find another job.

Dec 18th 2009 5:57PM To all the people that want to trash Kate, how nice would you be if any of you had 8 kids with six of them being the same age. I wasn't a regular observer of the show, but everytime I watched it I was in awe of how she handled her overwhelmed life. I have 3 kids and two of them are disabled and whenever I feel like I can't go on any longer, i'll watch their show and count my blessings. Thank you Kate for giving parents that really have challenges an example to follow. Let's keep it in perspective people.

Sep 18th 2009 11:52PM Damien, Iv'e been to those kind of establishments when I was younger and believe me they were not clean cut. There was drugs and alcohol there anyway. The kids would sneak it in and there would be a lot of gang-bangers hanging out making trouble for the few clean cut kids that actually came. You would have to hire a lot of security to keep track of what goes on and keep the trouble makers away. You would have to use metal detectors to make sure the gang-bangers or any one else didn't have any weapons on them. You would have to work out all of those parameters.

Sep 1st 2009 8:20AM well my dear, I am a middle aged black american woman and if you look close enough, you will see that happening everywhere. In fact the majority of the black households with children in this country are headed by women. American men are no different. I can tell you some of the stories I have seen and experienced. Men in general are cut from the same mold. They are taught very early in childhood that they are entitled to whatever they want. I see it year after year. We women condone it in one way or another. Some of us need to stop spoiling our sons and looking to them to compensate for the love we are not getting from our husbands, boyfriends or whatever the case is. I can't tell you how many times I see parents neglect to correct that mentality when it first surfaces. Most of the time it is because that was how they were raised to believe. I know I was. It wasn't until I had a son that I learned to think differenly. They are given the idea that they are entitled to be waited on. We need to stop doing that to them.(those of you that are doing it) It ruins them. Turns them into unworthy mates and husbands. Make them learn how to take care of their own needs if you are not doing that. Don't let them develop eighteen year old lazy habits. keep track of WHO THEY ARE ASSOCIATING WITH. Our children's brains are like computers. They record everything they see and hear. We decide what programming they get by what we teach or allow others to teach them. They look at us and follow our lead. That is why the Bible instucts us to teach them in the right way. We are seeing what happens when we don't. My husband and I have one son and we made sure he knew what respect and responsibility was and if I ever see or hear of him acting in that manner, I will put my fourth degree black-belt foot up his....well, you know.

My sister (who is black) married a white man and had two children with naturaly straight (no curls, waves or frizziness) platinum blond hair and crystal clear blue eyes. People didn't believe they were her children. (the comments they would make) They did not look black at all. They still don't and they are in their 30s. When they tell people they are mixed, noone believes them. (until they meet my sister) When they were in school, they were always getting in fights with other black girls that thought they were trying to pass. Take the chance to study genetics. It will explain to you that two dark skinned people can have a child lighter than themselves. Being black I have seen evidence of that hundreds of times. I knew one family with both parents being chocolate brown and one of their kids was fair skinned and had green eyes. when the husband became suspicious, the DNA test proved he was the father. I also knew a black girl that was not mixed with blue eyes. She was chocolate brown, had afro hair and both of her parents were chocolate brown. (it looked very pretty on her. Her brother had one blue eye and one brown eye. I'm not lying. Genetics is a funny thing.
