They withdrew from the Big 10, because of the conflict between athletics and academics. The school felt that athletics devalued education, and education was the school's purpose

UChicago's middle 50% band of SAT scores for the undergraduate class of 2012 was 1340–1510,and it has a near 100 percent graduation rate for athletes.

I think we need to see more importance put on education and not athletics.
