Aug 29th 2009 9:03PM I remember a gaffe that almost occurred but the announcer stopped himself just in time. It was a few years ago when the Braves were playing the Reds, and longtime Braves announcer Skip Caray was in the booth. It was during a time when every other team in professional sports just had to have a black version of its uniforms, and the Reds took the field with black sleeves. Caray said it didn't look right, and then said, "After all, they're called the Reds..." and then a couple seconds of silence. He was probably going to say, "They're called the Reds, not the Blacks." Even though he wouldn't have meant anything by it, you can bet that the United States of the Offended would have been all over it.
