Most of the characters he plays are dimwits; like the boozing, self-pitying fool in "Leaving Las Vegas." The guy's a good actor but he picks lousy scripts. If Leno wanted to continue doing talk TV he should have stayed where he was. Carson left the show for a very good reason--he retired. Leno should be doing the same thing.

During her brief stint as a vice presidential candidate it became painfully obvious that this dimwitted former beauty queen was totally clueless regarding any of the relevant issues facing our political leadership in today's world. And the very fact that Republicans and Conservatives are still rallying around her as some kind of savior of their philosophical moorings only demonstrates what a moribund state they and their party are in today. All astute Democratics and liberals are hoping and praying that the GOP will annoint her as their standard bearer in the next election. It will mean a slam dunk victory for whoever runs against her.

Oct 24th 2009 5:10PM Great choice to play Amelia Earhart. Hillary Swank is a fine actress but not terribly attractive, and neither was Amelia. They look very much alike. I think the Earhart legend is overblown in significance. She wasn't a great pilot and as a navigator it's been said that "she couldn't find her own ass with both hands and a flashlight." Ruth Elder, who duplicated Lindbergh's flight to Europe just 2 weeks after Lindbergh flew to Paris, is a forgotten figure who was more impressive. But I'm sure it's a good film about an interesting event in aviation's early days.

Oct 22nd 2009 1:28PM After reading Dr. Watkin's predictable little diatribe about 'racism in the fabric of our society'---a concept that black academics do their very best to keep alive---I was not surprised to discover that, Big Surprise here, he's black! And his reading of the Serena Williams controversy is a crock of $%#t. If a white tennis player had threatened a black judge at the tournament, he'd come up with the same conclusion---white racism. Fact is, Serena Williams was losing the match, she's a sore loser and she vented her frustration on anyone but her self. She won't become some historical figure who inspires future generations; she'll be remembered as a good tennis player with a bad temper. And don't expect her to focus on the betterment of 'all of mankind' because she's all about making herself rich and famous, period. As for getting naked on the cover of a magazine, who cares?!

Oct 3rd 2009 9:48PM I'm interested in what his film on capitalism shows. Moore is a very biased documentarian who indulges in lots of trick editing to make his point, but in the case of capitalism I don't think he needs to fudge the facts. Bottom line, our capitalist system has brought us to the point of being the biggest debtor nation on earth---Communist China is the biggest creditor nation, by the way---we're engaged in corporate welfare for some of the biggest banks in America, we have the mortgage meltdown to deal with and unemployment nearing the double digits. But we keep telling ourselves that "We're number one! We're number one!" singing that same silly mantra to demonstrate how divorced from reality we really are.
