May 3rd 2011 12:46PM Donald Trump doesnt hold any elective offices nor is he likely to. Private citizens arent required to release anything. He was looking for publicity and he got plenty of it-he's a happy man.

We have an expectation of presidential candidates that they will release documentation concerning their backgrounds in order that the people may fully evaluate the candidates' credentials. Other presidents have done this as a matter of routine.

How smart was it to allow this issue to fester and grow into the whole birther mess? If he had nothing to hide, nothing to be ashamed of...just release it. Refusing to do so for so gave rise to the notion that there is something sneaky and deceitful about the man. Unfortunately for him, that's not going to go away now that there are so many people who are deeply invested in proving there's something wrong with his qualifications.
Bad judgement call on his part.

Had he been defiant and taken the issue to trial and generally created a three ring circus like Wesley Snipes did, he no doubt would have gone to jail as well. I hated that happened to Wesley, but he brought it on himself.

That being said, celebrities do have to pay a hell of a lot; I feel for them, seeing that massive amount of money flowing out.
