Jun 20th 2011 2:05PM Denise, Mandy is right. From all accounts both in the car had been drinking. Also, one doesn't have to be over the legal limit to be at risk. From the view of the wreckage excessive speed was highly likely. Any drinking reduces reaction time. So the two paid the price. Thankfully no one else did.

As my sister and her family almost were killed by a drunk driver I have little respect for those who drink too much and drive. It's time we took DUI seriously as the crime it is.

A former F-4 pilot who became my aircraft commander on an RC-135 told me the F-4 without power glided like a brick. the joke was that if you put big enough engines on anything it would fly. ;-) But my AC said the F-4 was a great combat plane and fun to fly.

Jan 11th 2011 1:17PM A number of posters should have their drivers licenses pulled and be sent back to complete high school. It's sad when parents complain about having their children forced to attend school while showing that their own education is seriously lacking.

While I agree in general that the government is interfering in our lives too much, making sure children receive some form of competent schooling is vital to the future of our country. I realize many schools aren't competent, but parents must try to see that their children are properly educated, even if it means home schooling or tutoring.

As for getting a doctor's note, I agree that's often a problem. Sometimes getting an appointment takes a couple of weeks, and then there's the cost. Perhaps if such draconian laws are implemented we should take our children to the emergency room and have the school district billed as LK suggested.

However, I'll venture that the issue of children missing too much school isn't about illness, unless it involves being hung over or high. Also, too many children are running with gangs. Far too many parents know this but have given up on their children, hence the harsh suggested approach to the problem.

May 9th 2010 7:40AM A lot of liberals and Democrats who allege that conservatives are hateful because the don't vote for someone who hasn't stood up for conservative values just don't seem to understand the connotation of teabagger. Then again, I think they do and are trying in their puerile, vicious, and course manner, central to the liberal/socialist/progressive worldview, to show their animus towards anyone who's unwilling to acquiesce to their socialist agenda; fiscal insanity, open borders, abortion on demand, a Chamberlain and even Quisling approach to Islamic aggression, legalized drugs, perversions, a welfare nanny state, pure democracy, and one-party rule.

Considering the acerbic and often abusive rhetoric hurled at Mr. Obama by the far Left because they feel betrayed since Mr. Obama hasn't ushered in a fabian socialist regime despite the fact he's a socialist albeit a practical and cagey one, I find the prevarication about hatred towards Bennett by conservatives to be quite base and disingenuous. But it would seem that the Left wants all of their agenda effected and wants it done now.

Also, to illustrate the intolerance and abject hatred the Left espouses towards anyone who opposes their agenda, one only need read the post of howdy (1:26 am). He'd probably advocate psikhushkas, gulags, and killing fields but I doubt he's that cognizant of history. Like those in the French Jacobin mobs, he just wants blood to run in the streets. I just hope he and those like him don't think of themselves as a true American patriots. It's people like howdy why Jefferson stated the need for the Second Amendment.
