Former NAACP President Benjamin Hooks Dead at 85 {BV Black Spin}
Apr 15th 2010 2:00PM Darlene,
I totally agree with you.
I knew people of other races and cultures who fought for the rights of Black people back in the sixties. The NAACP was put into motion by white people who believed that all people should be free.
When will we realize that we are ALL "People of Color"?
A racist is one who thinks their race is better than any other, and the sooner we can stamp out racism, the sooner we can truly become God's Children.
Benjamin Hooks was a great man, and is a great soul. May he rest in peace.
Bank Wrongly Seizes Home, Takes Parrot {Housingwatch}
Mar 13th 2010 9:41AM About ten years ago, my husband and I were in the middle of packing and moving.
My sister, who had a substantial account with B of A at the time, had sent us a large check to help with the move.
Wearing my old jeans and shirt (I was in the middle of cleaning up) I went over to the bank to cash the check.
The manager, who was over-dressed and heavily made up, copped a snotty attitude with me and refused to cash the check.
I called my sister, who then called the head of the bank to clear it up. When I went back to cash the check, he was very apologetic. The manager was nowhere in sight.
Talk about judging by appearances...

It's sad that such arrogant criminals can have a free ride on our money, even those of us that don't bank with the jerks!
How to Introduce a Kitten to Your Older Cat {Pawnation OLD}
Mar 10th 2010 4:51PM I had a next door neighbor who adopted and bottle-fed a 3 week old male kitten. This cat didn't know it was a cat, and when my neigh or had to go into a convalescent home, she asked me to take care of her cat.
I brought him in and put him in a very large ( German Shepherd sized) carrier in our front room, so our 4 cats would get used to him.
After a couple of days, we let him out under supervision.
It was horrible. He was so frightened of our cats that he thought he had to defend himself to the death, and he was very strong.
I tried adopting him out, but he was so upset and angry that no one wanted him.
With a heavy heart, I took him to our local Humane Society and explained the situation. They told me that they could keep him for two weeks. If he wasn't adopted out, they would have to turn him over to the pound.
I asked them to call me and let me know, because I couldn't stand the thought of him being put down. He was a very sweet and affectionate cat to my husband and me, but he had lived next door and interacted with us a lot.
Two weeks later I got the call. He was unadoptable.
After I brought him home, I had to keep him separated from the other cats. It took months before they could be in the same room without some sort of battle.
That was six years ago.
Now he gets along fine with our remaining cat (the others passed away from age and cancer).
Cats are loners in their natural habitat. Other than African Lions, they only stay together when they're kittens, or breeding.
It's humans that have turned these beautiful creatures into perennial kittens that want to be around others all of their lives.

Archway Windmill Cookies Back on Shelves {Slashfood}
Sep 9th 2009 11:54PM I love Archway cookies, because they have that homemade taste.
Trader Joes also makes an excellent windmill cookie, but they're more expensive than Archway.
Didn't Van de Kamps also make an almond windmill cookie about thirty years ago? I'm almost certain they were the first windmill cookies I tasted.
Welcome back, Archway!
