Actually, yes: The Yankees certainly did buy the World Series {Daily Finance}
Nov 17th 2009 12:34PM The answer to the question, ' does money buy championships in baseball ' can be done using statistical analysis and it's time someone did it.
All the facts and figures are out there, but no one who has access to them will use them to answer the question. Here's what you would need to know.
1) A list of all teams payrolls from a given period (shall we start with the first year the Yankees won a World Series) to now. That would span a period of nearly one hundred years.
2) A correlation anaylsis between payroll and regular season records. This would answer the question as to whether higher payrolls increased the liklihood of making the playoffs. If no correlation is found, it would be fair to conclude money can't buy championships.
3) A correlation analysis between payroll and post-season records.
4) Given a positive correlation, a determination of each teams standard deviation. This would expose any outliers (the Yankees are the possible outlier everyone is looking for) and allow one to draw intellectually honest conclusions
about "buying championships".
Like I said, the facts are out there with which to compute the results. Now someone has to do it. If they were smart, they could put it in book form and make a lot of money.
Rollins Rips Yankee Stadium Atmosphere {Fanhouse MLB Blog}
Oct 30th 2009 11:41AM I am a die-hard Yankee Fan and, unfortunately, I have to admit that what Rollins said is correct.
As a boy growing up at Yankee Stadium, watching the likes of the Mickey Mantle era AND the Reggie Jackson teams, Yankee fans were routy AND intelligent when it came to baseball; now they are just intelligent. We need to get some of that routiness back!
I'd hate to see the Yankees purely associated with the Madison Avenuers. The New York taxi cab driver is leaven upon which the Yankee mystique has fed for 100 myears to produce 26 World Champions.
Philly, on the other hand, is a town of fair weather fans. Routiness to them is when a parachuter parachutes into their stadium and is booed as he's taken off the feild in an amubulance after crashing accidentally into the stands (a true story).
Yankee fans, on the other hand, know how to push the envelope without acting like romans cheering on the lions.
I hope the Yankees win the World series not just because I'm a Yankee Fan, but so that perhaps their win will usher in a new era of Justice where OJ Simpson's and nine-eleven terrorists don't get off scott free.
Gay Characters on Television: Is CBS Turning a Blind Eye? {Inside TV Blog}
Oct 5th 2009 9:28AM CBS should do whatever it wants.
If gays are covered sufficiently on other networks, and CBS sees an audience that would prefer not to be inundated with gay potrayals, that's CBS's business decision, no one else's.
Unless of course, your a left-wing detractor of the first amendment that would like to see Fox News go away too.
Don't Put 'Em in Canton Yet {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Oct 5th 2009 8:38AM Romo isn't the problem. It's the Dallas Cowboys organization, which is outdated and annoying. Even announcers cling to the hope that Dallas can claim to be "America's Team".
The baseball counterpart New York Yankees adapt and change. No longer can its detractors claim that Yankee fans are arrogant and spoiled. The personality of this years Yankee team suggests otherwise. This is a Yankee team that is scruffy and built, albeit with two or three significant exceptions, from its farm system.
Not so in Dallas. A 1.4 Billion dollar Taj Mahal palace reeks of unfettered aristocracy and this transposes to the team.
I like Tony Romo, but I detest the Cowboys. If Tony is not bound by contract he should leave the team.
Catholic Church Offers Pre-Coital Prayer for the Pious {Lemondrop}
Sep 2nd 2009 10:05PM Let's keep church and sex separated, just like the church and state. Man needs some outlet to make him feel truely independent from all influences, including God.
And that only outlet is sex.
That doesn't make Man evil, it makes him LIKE God. No need for the pot to pray to call the kettle black.
Erin Andrews Calls Naked Romp on Tape a 'Nightmare' {Popeater}
Sep 1st 2009 10:28AM All these tapes purportedly hitting the internet yet no one to show you how to see them.
I read scores of blogs from bloggers saying they couldn't find the videos of Erin Andrews, and I couldn't find them myself.
Now, AOL reports a threesome between Eric Dane and two other women (one his wife), but doesn't tell us how to view the videos.
Moral outrage against murder doesn't require released video tapes of acts of murder to unleash the forces of recrimination.
But where nude video tapes are concerned, celebrities ought to shrug off unintended public access to them. Why?
1) The "acts" being videotaped are not illegal.
2) To condone the tapes, by viewing them for prurient reasons, is a complement to those who have been blessed with the looks and figures to have great sex with great looking people.
3) To malign the tapes, by seeking prosecution of those who release them, reeks of hypocrisy where celebreties are concerned. Celebreties are, after all, talented exhibitionists, whose exhibitionism, it has been shown time and again, doesn't stop at the bedroom.
This doesn't mean that celebreties should a) not take measures to cover up the peepholes or b)stand in the way of prosecuting the video tapers. But suing video tapers reeks of hypocrisy. Celebrities' reputations are not typically damaged by promiscuous sex, and Erin Andrews, I'm sure, is living fine off the proceeds of her noteriety that has increased by this event.

To oppose a war is not to disrespect the men who fight it.
Like others here, you paint a generation with too broad a brush.
As for "pot smoking and getting high", weren't there more than just a few soldiers in Vietnam who did the same while listening to Jimmy Hendrix?
