Feb 17th 2011 10:24PM I chose to be a single parent by adopting three babies at birth through private adoption. After a bitter divorce, I wanted to know that my children would NEVER have the trauma of going through a divorce, witnessing domestic violence or even extreme arguments, never be the subject of a custody battle, or any of the other horrors children endure when a marriage goes bad. My kids are happy, well-adjusted, honor roll students. I work just weekends as a nurse so I can volunteer at school, teach art and scouts, etc. during the week. I've never missed a field trip or party at school. My kids know they can count on me, even though there's just one of me. AND THEY ARE HAPPY WITH JUST ME. We're all doing just fine, thank you very much.

Nov 11th 2010 6:55PM Registered Nurses are NOT required to have a Bachelor's Degree! You can take the NCLEX (licensing exam) after completing an Associate's Degree in Nursing. I am a House Supervisor in a 500 bed hospital with an Associate's Degree. These articles need to be checked for accuracy before being posted for the public to read.

Sep 5th 2010 11:40AM As a Registered Nurse, I highly respect the show and what it is accomplishing. One thing to remember - the treatment offered to the addicts by this show is extremely expensive! Finally, a reality show that makes a difference by providing a service that could not otherwise be afforded by these families. Whether you find the show "exploitive" or not, you have to agree that if ONE person is saved from a lifelong addiction, IT'S WORTH IT!

Aug 14th 2010 3:53PM Edamame, hummus, goat cheese....give me a break! Everyone knows which foods are nutritious and which aren't - but you put the majority of the stuff suggested in this article in kids' lunches, and they will go straight in the trash. The trick is finding something nutritious that your kid will eat. I knew from the time one of my kids was a baby she would never eat meat (11 years later, still doesn't eat meat). The other child eats any fruit or vegetable. You have to use common sense and pack what your child will EAT. So much food is wasted in school cafeterias. My good friend considered herself a good mother when she served her kids strips of red bell pepper with their meals. She did this for years, and for years, they went in the trash. I would rather pack what my children like to eat (a mixture of healthy & junk) and have them actually eat it, than a lunchbox full of wonderful food that goes in the trash! P.S. To those who say children will eventually eat this if it's all they're given: tried it - my daughter starved for five days and lost weight. It's not worth it! That's what they make multivitamins for!

Apr 12th 2010 6:50PM As an adoptive parent of three and foster parent to over 150 special needs children, I was horrified by this woman's decision to put a 7-year old boy on an international flight by himself. Even if the child was suffering from the emotional problems so many children from orphanages have, the thing to do was GET HIM SOME HELP!!! The child was never even taken to a child psychologist! I am a nurse, also, and a single adoptive parent. This woman was also a nurse-where's her compassion? This is inexcusable, and this woman needs to face serious legal charges for child abandonment- like it or not, this was now HER CHILD. If it was her biological child she treated like this, she'd be in prison right now. GROW A HEART, you pathetic excuse for a mother.
