Five Lost Disney World Rides from River Country to Mars (VIDEO) {AOL Travel News}

Apr 4th 2011 8:22PM Alfred is right about there being an underground area at Disney World. I just returned from a trip there and stayed at the Grand Floridian. We were leaving the park on one of the boats and crossing Seven Seas Lagoon to the resort. The captain entertained us with park trivia.

One of the things he said was that the Seven Seas was a man-made lake and that all the dirt from Seven Seas was dumped onto a giant concrete building meant for an underground "cast member" area, and the Magic Kingdom was built on top. He called it one of those things that wouldn't be discussed with the general public if Walt Disney was still alive.

5 Ways to Look Festive This Season {Stylelist (Main)}

Dec 23rd 2010 10:04AM Just a case of more people trying to justify their jobs. Write a critical article... find somebody or something to bash. Designers have to be against something... otherwise they can't be exclusive. They should just leave people alone to weat what they like. On the other hand, here we all are, most of us in agreement that this article is poo, but all they want here is "hits." They don't care if we agree, they already got what they want from us. And so goes the world now...

Vanessa Branch -- 10 Things You Didn't Know About the Orbit Gum Girl {Asylum}

Jul 26th 2010 11:32AM Woah... before you pop a gasket defending your cousin "Free Credit Report Guy," you should read that they were only making a clever reference to how HE couldn't be Miss Vermont. Have you had too much caffeine today or not enough?

Cheese Recall Impacts Target, Whole Foods and Others {Slashfood}

Jan 12th 2010 5:20PM How idiotic that someone blamed Wal-mart... They carry the same toys and foods that everbody else does. No retailer wants to have its goods recalled. And no manufacturer of goods wants its goods to be reputed as tainted in any way. But it happens - usually because of some human error at the point of orgin.

Mother Of Nine Says She Was Sterilized Against Her Will {ParentDish}

Jan 6th 2010 8:59PM Does anyone else find this timeline suspicious?

She asked for her medical records (we aren't told why), received a letter stating that a document about her surgery was missing, and a few months later (when the document was obviously never recovered) sued because she says she didn't want that surgery in the first place. Shouldn't she have realized long before now that she got a tubal and not an IUD?

It looks like she figured out after the hospital told her a consent document was missing that without it, they couldn't prove she didn't want the procedure in the first place. Maybe she decided she had an premise on which to sue.

Ricky Gervais Scares Elmo with Screeching Lullaby {ParentDish}

Dec 29th 2009 12:58PM I didn't really care for this lullaby, but I think Sesame Street has directed itself toward a lot of "in" jokes for adults lately that have bugged me even more. (For instance, telling kids to stay tuned for "Sox in the City.")

And slipping in celebrity guests whose regular "stock in trade" is sexual, vulgur, or otherwise profane humor must be a riot to the producers, but I think is a waste of their resources. Even if this stuff goes over the kids heads, it is a waste of the kids time to slip in junk that has no meaning to them.

When my son asks (and he does) I'd much rather explain to him who Maya Angelou is and what she does than explain about Jonah Hill and his body of work. :P

Pepsi and Walmart: Helping your kids want more junk food {WalletPop}

Sep 11th 2009 2:19PM My son doesn't ask for soda. Do you know why? I never gave it to him in the first place. Never. Once, he got offered soda at church and took a sip and gagged. As for other treats, he's smart enough to know where they are in any given store, regardless, and it is MY JOB to tell him yes or no. Imagine that. If I'm doing my job as a parent, it doesn't matter if they give soda away free on the sidewalk. No means no.

By the way, the Pepsi is being marketed to the parents who control the pursestrings. Impulse buys. Same reason they put salsa and chips out in the main aisle on at Super Bowl time, or cooking supplies at Thanksgiving. Basic retail survival.

It is despicable the way people pick at Wal-mart. The good they do on a daily basis in local communities and schools is astonishing and underappreciated.

This is an example of a writer who is reaching for something to sound worked up about.
