Dec 8th 2009 3:06PM i pay over $5K a year for my insurance, have a $20 copay and $10 and up for prescriptions. When I had my daughter, the hospital bill was over $22K. I paid nothing. Did my insurance pay the $22K ... no, it was discounted down to $3K. Yes, it was discounted down to THREE THOUSAND from $22K so when you are all saying that insurance is paying most of our bills- they have deals.
I went for a check up- doctor looked in my throat, checked my heart with a stethscope, made me touch my toes for an "orthopedic" exam, took my blood pressure. Cost- $237.00. Insurance paid them $58 and it was settled.

It just shows how the health care industry marks everything up. Maybe if doctors just charged the initial $58 to the patient, things wouldn't be so bad. give the consumer the discounted price too. Most people can come up with $58 to pay my bill if they didn't have insurance. but they wouldn't be able to come up with $237.00 for a physical.
