May 19th 2010 12:57PM I'm not OF a prepper mindset, but I have squirreled away enough supplies for me and my family for 14 days. My reasoning was, the existing emergency response system is taxed to the max in the large city we live in. In a massive disaster (earthquake is very likely in the Bay Area) the entire system will shut down. I assume gas/water/electricity will simply go away. I'm sure the basics will be back up and running in about 5-10 days hence my 14 day buffer supply.
