The media and the financial crisis: Journalism failed {Daily Finance}

May 29th 2009 8:37AM It sure has. Many journalists these days are nothing more then entertainers. They do it to be famous, and on TV, or so that people can know their names.

These writers might as well be on the pay roll for these people, they rarely asked hard questions, they rarely forced accountability in the directions of the people who were responsible. I have a degree in Journalism, but I don't pursue a career in it simply because journalism's foundation has been corrupted.

No one touches the hard news stories anymore, during the thick of the "financial crisis" news for example, CNN was running any little fluff story, almost like they were trying to distract people from the real news of the day, which was the United States as a whole, being poor. People can ignore things like that, they can watch a different station. If I am watching CNN, or another news broadcasting station I want the news, I don't want to be entertained.

It's just a sign of the times. Sad times.

Apple rejects Bittorrent control app from App Store because it might be used to infringe copyrights {Engadget}

May 11th 2009 3:31PM Wouldn't say Microsoft is the "evil one," if you're going to classify a company as evil, then Apple is right up there with them. Apple does quite a few evil, in this case just down right stupid things all of the time. Granted, they don't follow the same business model, but they are just as "evil" only, in a different way.

In fact, if you've been paying attention to a lot of the apple news you will notice that they have become quite draconian about things.

For instance, Microsoft releases Operating Systems at ridiculous prices, Apple releases service packs that should be free upgrades, since the OS they built should have handy tools. But instead, they charge you over 100 bucks for a "New Operating System." When, really. It is just an upgrade. It is all still OS:X just updated versions.

Anyway, I digress. Apple shouldn't be playing gate-keeper for what you decide to put on your iphone. Simply because something can be used illegally doesn't mean that it is being used illegal. You can rob a store with a gun, but you can still buy a gun. You can smuggle drugs in a car across the boarder, but you can still drive to say Canada, or Mexico. You can download media legally over bit-torrent files, and frankly why shouldn't we be able to? It is honestly the best option available to a lot of people at this point. Apple saying that this software could be used for illegal transaction is basically them saying "Well, that is what we would use it for... stealing Copy righted material."

The reasons they give for this not being allowed on the app store is largely political, and absolutely stupid. It is to just appease those people who think that the internet is an unregulated cyber-world of debauchery and criminal activity. However, I do think that the apple approval process is broken as hell, it doesn't make any sense, why some things get accepted, while perfectly useful and helpful apps like this get left out in the cold.

T-Mobile G1 first hands-on (updated) {Engadget}

Sep 23rd 2008 2:35PM I am really interested in getting a "Gphone." I have wanted a smart phone for awhile, but didn't want to get locked into poor service with AT&T. Where I am from, and where i live now doesn't seem to have good service, and I sure wasn't going to spend between 200 and 400 dollars to get an iphone that I am unable to use to it's full extent... Not to mention I don't want to send AT&T half my pay check for a lot of services on the phone that should be free, or come with cost of a basic plan to begin with.

I live in a medium sized town in central NY, and upon finding out that t-mobile would be carrying and distributing the phones with Android I checked my service area. It turns out I have absolutely no T-mobile service where I live, no edge, no G1, or G3. I would have to pay roaming fees...

So does anyone know of another major Cell company that would distributing this, like Verizon or something like that? I want the phone, I can afford it, and it's plan. It would be a real shame if I was unable to get it just because I absolutely needed to go through T-mobile... I don't like Pink anyway.

iTunes 7 turning out to have major glitches {Engadget}

Sep 17th 2006 8:38PM I really like the new itunes 7, and i love all the new content they added.

But i was extremely disappointed when i was using it and randomly the music got all scratchy, I opened my task manager to watch my RAM being used to death.

My computer is a little old, but I am running a 2.4 ghz pentium 4 and I have 1 gig of RAM... So I really don't think there is any reason that itunes should be using that much of my system resources.

I thought at first it was because i was browsing my play listen of nearly 3000 songs, but even when i leave it alone and i am just listening to music i still get the scratching sound every 5 to 25 minutes.
