Feb 3rd 2010 7:34AM While there's nothing wrong with wanting your child to grow up bilingual, doing so just because that Latino community says so is stupid. The Latino community should never have chastised her for not knowing Spanish, considering she's more American than I am.

When my mother immigrated to the US, she killed herself learning English. It was more important to her that I grow up learning the language of America, rather than her native Italian.

A good knowledge of English removes many barriers in the future
