it's 'wither' not whither'. 'rivers was referring to something drying up and shriveling, which is 'wither'. 'whither' means 'where'.

Feb 6th 2010 4:19AM A lot of comments about BSA teaching kids to be afraid of/prejudiced against gays; I left the Scouts at age 13 because I was an atheist and could not, in good conscience, recite a pledge that referred to a god I did not believe in.
I'm glad my two sons were not interested in an organization that teaches fear of those who may be different-I raised them to accept others for what they are and not need everyone to be exactly alike.
It's a big country and the BSA can do as they like, but they'll do it
without the approval and support of people like myself.
