Why Stern Should Take a Stand in Arizona {Fanhouse NBA Blog}

You are clearly open-minded and so you probably cannot be wrong in your political positions. So why not proselytize on Real Politics etc? You are no doubt well intentioned with your support of injecting political didactics into sports, but this is a slippery slope.
Let me point out that it is only in totalitarian states that one cannot escape the drumbeat of the political message in art -- e.g. the legacy of the Soviet 'comrade meets tractor movies'; in science -- e.g. TD Lychenko's state sanctioned and bogus anti-geneticism; and in sports -- where international (Communist) and ethnic (National Socialism) competition is seen through the lens of superiority or inferiority of social values.
Until Lebron James or Steve Nash run for political office, we should not care if they graduated from college, read the Federalist Papers or where they stand on the controversial political issues of the day.
We need to keep the wet blanket of political debate off the sports page.

View From Breakfast Joint: Tiger Still Has Egg on His Face {Fanhouse Golf Blog}

Feb 19th 2010 4:40PM Well said, David.
An articulate, Stanford educated, media experienced thirty-something adult, Tiger has offered up a Tonya Harding-esque mea culpa.
His and his advisors' decision to lump the sports media with the tabloids is simplistic, and the decision to avoid questions from the Woods friendly golf writers reflects either lack of confidence or arrogance.
For me, it just rang hollow.
Too bad, because I believe that he could have hit one of his famous trouble shots and made birdie from where others would be pleased with a bogey.
