Mar 12th 2010 11:54PM What happened to New York's first and largest State Hospital, Central Islip State Hospital. Established on Long Island in 1889 to alleviate crowding on Ward's Island, it was initially known as The Farm Colony. Doctor McDonald was its forst diector and Dr. Smith was its second. Since decentralization in the 1980s, many of its buildings house the New York Institute of Technology. The former hospital occupied ove a mile in length.
