Vet's Widow and Son Receive Gift of a Lifetime {AOL Real Estate}
Dec 20th 2011 10:44PM if you knew what really happened,, he passed away at home in the states from injuries he received while in Iraq in 2006. It doesnt matter when or how he got the injuries,,, point is he served his country got hurt in the process and died from complications from his wounds. It doesnt really matter,good things happen sometimes and something good happened to his widow and their son .. just drop it. There is nothing fishy about any of this.. and for your info and I know this for a fact.. they had mounting medical bills and normal day to day bills as well. The va didnt pay for everything. I am sure what SGLI he had is long gone from paying for all that.

Dec 20th 2011 10:23PM you know I am glad you mentioned the part about people protetsing at our military members funerals.. its sick , twisted and totally disrespectful. Yet they say its their first amendment right,, well let me say this ,, come protest at my husbands funeral when he dies ( yes he is a vet) gulf war vet. And lets see if my second amendment right outweighs your first amendment when I shoot you for disrespecting his right to be buried with dignity. talk all you want its your right,, its also my right to bear arms and I know how to use it to.

Dec 20th 2011 10:05PM low pay is nothing new for the military . We were stationed in San Diego in 1994 , at the time my huisband had been an E for 3 yrs and we still qualified for wic for our new baby.. The BAH did not cover the rent we had to pay on the house we rented , and it was nothing special let me tell you ,, 900 sq ft and 3 br one bath, very cramped but its all we could afford .. we had to pay the balance of the rent out of our pocket. Housing out there at that time was pretty much set aside for E6 and below. We lived from check to check most of the time.. I did find work eventually after my son was 8 months old and no I didnt wait that long on purpose.. jobs were scarce out there during that time. There are still military famlies that I know who live check to check.. There are resources to use though ,, spouse support groups are a good place to start. I know some spouses are to proud to ask but in these times being shy or to proud is not an option anymore, alot say well get a job while your husband or wife is gone,, but then there is daycare and a lot of them close down at6 pm .. so you are limited to the hours you can work which in turn limits what jobs you can apply for. my husband finally retied from the military after 22 1/2 yrs ,, it was a rough road at times but we made it.

Dec 20th 2011 9:36PM All of them do not have the same 400K coverage,, you people who dont know anything about the military and our benefits need to just STFU ... Our men and women have to pay for that coverage every month,, and its in 50 k incriments if they choose to take it,, up to 400k. maybe he didnt have it and maybe he only had 50 k .. you dont know . So many on here think they know all about the military and its benefits,, they are not just given to them. so before you open your mouth make sure you know what you are talking about James. Oh and I take it from your lack of knowledge on this subject and your total ignorance that you never served in the military. Maybe if you did you would have more respect for service members.

Dec 19th 2011 10:40PM Now lets hope they can read and learn what you have posted. Its pretty much step by step on how things are dealt with . They also need to know that if the service member had a lot of outstanding debt when they passed away that the money the spouse gets has to take care of all that to . Just cause our spouses are in the military does not mean they are debt free. Thanks for posting the break down for those who need to learn where the money goes.

Dec 19th 2011 10:35PM I dont think alot of the women posting are military wives or they would know this. I know my husband only had 200K for his SGLI. If they are military wives they are sadly misinformed .. I always made it my business to know what we did and didnt have in the event of such a tragedy. Any military spouse that doesn't is only hurting themselves. Get out there and learn about your husbands or wives careers and what they have set in place if something happens to them . If you are in the dark its your own fault,, and to all the arm chair military spouses that are assuming that all our husbands and wives have 400K.. read up and get your facts straight before you go spouting off about something you know nothing about.

Dec 19th 2011 10:25PM They are not trying to replace her husband, they are trying to make it easier for her to move on and raise her son without worrying about a house payment or rent hanging over her head. Unless you are the spouse of a military member or a military member yourself you would not understand how this is a help to her. I have seen widows and widowers turn away gifts , because they were to proud to take a handout,, but they deserve anything they get when they lose a husband or wife to war, and yes I am a military spouse,, I have been one for 26 years now.

Dec 19th 2011 10:19PM Not all sailors or soldiers have that much coverage. just let the woman and her family be. She would not be recieving this unless she deserved it, I am sure that her fiancial status was check out before this gift was given to her. I am a wife of a retired military vet and as far as I am concerned all vets desrve anything that is given to them. If it were not for them some people would not have the freedom to go around complaining about what their widows recieve. Until you walk a mile in a war veterans shoes don't even pretend you know what its like . Thank you to the people who are providing her this home.
