The author in writing about the HISTORY of asylums is referring to how people who had epilepsy were perceived in the past, not how they are now perceived. People in earlier eras did not understand such conditions and therefore sometimes treated others who had conditions they did not understand in what we recognize today as a terrible way, including castration of such individuals. The author is only reporting what happened so that readers would know the truth of the history, not to criticize people who have epilepsy. Yours was a very shortsighted reading of the article. If there are some persons who you think are ignorant reading this, then one would hope that some reading of history might improve their knowledge base.
